Confused about MPs and TPs

Do MPs convert into credits or do they represent something else? How about TPs?

MPs are are Manufacturing Points and are used for... well, manufacturing, not currency. Trade points are what's used for currency. I'm not sure though if there is any conversion to credits or, if so, what the rate is.

As I understand it, MP's go towards whatever ship the planet is building. If it's not building one, they are wasted. TP's go to tech research. If you set research to 0, then they're wasted. Only SP's convert, and that to MP's if you aren't building any social improvements.

If I'm wrong, I hope someone will correct me.

Hi!

Manufacturing Points are the output of your factories, when you give them money as input. You can "convert" MPs into ships and buildings. If you don't build anything, are those MPs "lost", but you aren't charged for them. And you can't get more money back - those MPs aren't converted into more money. There's also a transfer of MPs from social production into military production, if your social queue is empty (you're not building any building).

How about TPs?

Technology Points are output of your research buildings. Even if you don't research anything (your tech tree is all done), you're still charged for them. So when that happens, you better convert all reseach buildings into something else.

That is very helpful.

Will two research labs cut the amount of time required to research an item in half?

Will two factories cut the amount of time required to produce one item in half or just give you the ability to produce two items at the same time?

Well that would stand to reason. Though there may be some ingame mechanism that allows for a certain amount of wastage. I'm not sure about that.

You can't build two things at once, so having two factories will just double your speed. With the exception of course of being able to construct a building and a ship at the same time. Provided again that there is no such thing as wastage in the game.

I did some research on the effect of buying research labs. You can do research without a research lab. With research spending at 34% and no research labs, the Basic Logistics tech takes 13 weeks. Buying a lab reduces that to 11 weeks. Buying a second lab reduces it to 9 weeks.

I believe your Civilization Capital and Initial Colony buildings produce research, as well as manufacturing, food, and morale. If I recall correctly, the Civilization Capital gives more in most if not all of these and also gives an influence bonus.
