Is it possibe to "forbid" certain Techs from a game?

The thing is, I hate lasers and everything it has to do with.
My question is: how can I "forbid" the laser weapons and defence?

You could use a scenario which specifies which techs can be researched, or you can simply mod TechTree.xml and remove all of the beam and shield techs (back it up first!). In either case, you can find the details of how to do it here.

Why do you hate them? Just curious. If anything, I'd ban missles. I feel they take too long to research.

Just dont research them and dont use them.

You can win any game without it.

Well, my guess is he doesn't want the AI's to use them either, and if they do, you kinda have to research shields, even with the off-defense issue.

Yeh I dont want the AI to use them either.

I have always like the Doomray.
And I have seen some pretty powerful AI ships based on it.

When the spread in some of my games ranges from ~48 darts or slugs, to ~250 beam - how bad can they be?

I never said that they are bad, I just hate them, I hate the sounds that they make, I hate how they look etc.
