why am i addicted to this game?

i have never played a turn based strategy game until this one. previous to galciv2 da i only played rts or sim games, but i was curious to see if i would enjoy them.i downloaded the demo thought it was ok then read some reviews online about galciv2 they were all really good, so i decided to put down the cash and give it a try.
now i can't seem to stop playing until my eyes are blood shot or i have to go to the washroom.
but i can't figure out why i like this game so much?
if i can't get this addiction under control i may have to resort to visine and diapers.
is anyone else addicted?
is there help?

I *was* addicted, but since DA has lagging, it killed my addiction with deadly haste!

now if i could only get my girlfriend to enjoy this game as much as i do... maybe that would cure alot of problems

It is addicting because you have a lot of options. That, at least, was my reason.

You can play a lot of games, in diferent ways, and they will all be diferent.

You can choose diferent methods, possibilities, empires, choices, enemies, map sizes, number of planets, anomalies, random events... Every new game feels fresh.

Few games have this much replay value.

yeah that's one of the only bummers with this game. i was actually surprised at how much power this game needs, but i dialed down some of the graphics options now its running ok

if you figure out how to get your girlfriend interested in the game you'd have to be even smarter than brad wardell and all the staff here at stardock.
hope it works out for ya

I bought GC2 last June. Before that I had been buying a couple of games a month for years. Since, I have bought three other games total and they are sitting collecting dust with only a few hours played on them while I continue playing GC2. I think it's a combination of an awesome game, great community, and Stardock being one of the most customer oriented game companies out there.

I wonder how many females play this game?? Respond if female! I know video games are much more a male thing, probably because most games are about war, killing, conquering, etc.

Nope, you're stuck here.

You might as well enjoy your stay (Not that it would be difficult considering the game). Since you are going to be here a while, you might as well start looking for a guide. It gives you something to read while the full version downloads (or installs from CD).

Edit:
For me, the game is addicting because the AI is good.

The game is addictive because, simply, it is a great game.

If we have to live with an addiction, there are many that are much worse than GalCiv2.

I don't have DA yet, saddly or gladly as the case may be.

Sadly because I was so looking forward to the expansion's improvements and additions, plus I simply can not afford it right now - gladly, because the bugs have not been worked out yet.

But, I have no doubt that the bugs will be worked out. There were bugs with DL as well, and we all have seen the results. The devs really listen, and TRY!

I will get DA eventually, and I am sure my addiction will be reformatted, reinstalled, upgraded and renewed when that time comes.
