All AI's, all missles?

I apologize if this has been brought up before, but it just seems liek all the AI's always use missles, which makes it easier insomuch that you only have to really research one defense. Do they become more varying on harder levels maybe?

LOL, maybe it's my map size, or my difficulty. I'm playing 4 AI's on a medium map, normal difficulty, I was in the middle of the map, and they all picked beam weapons. So I maxed out the shields, and for the most part they can't touch me. Ah well, makes it easy ha ha.

A Doom Ray does 22 damage, has Size 10 and SizeMod 4. A Blackhole Gun does 16 damage, has Size 6 and SizeMod 4. A Blackhole Eruptor does 25 damage, has Size 11 and SizeMod 2.
SizeMod is a value added to the Size, and is a percentage of the hull starting size. Components with large Size and small SizeMod are more effective on hulls with larger Sizes.


Hey Regicide, I understand the damage and the size, I don't get the size mods you listed. How does that affect the weapon and space available? I have noticed that components need more space on larger hulls. Is this data listed in the shipyard screens, and how does it work? If you could spell it out for me like I'm in the first grade I would really appriciated it. I got dizzy trying to figure it out on my own. Thanks.

I don't get the size mods you listed. How does that affect the weapon and space available?

It adds the stated percent of the hull space to the size of the item. Like: hull has 100 space, you'd like to put in it the Doom Ray (size 10, sizemod 4). The actual size of the Doom ray for that hull will be 10 + 4 sizemod * 100 space / 100 (for percents) = 14.

The low sizemod for missiles makes them even more atractive weapon for large hulls. In fact a hull size 250 (probably the largest one possible for human player) equipped with ultimate missiles dishes out 170% of damage of any other ultimate weapon. To add insult to injury, the same hull with Positronic Torpoedos II has about the same firepower as the same ship with ultimeate weapons from other two types, but costs only a half of their price!

I don't know for AIs, but missiles are my weapon of choice for a quite long time.

Ah-ha! I never paid much attention to the sizemod, or really knew what it meant. Now I understand. Does anyone know if it's rounded up, or down?

Ex: size 30 hull, weapon of size 10, sizemod 4. 10 + (4 * 30 / 100). Is that 10+1=11, or 10+2=12, for rounding up?
