Going where no bugger's been before?

I cant believe that after all this time there's still no space game to beat Birth of the Federation. In comparison with GalCiz:-
- BOTF has better battle options - allowing 4 different real-time battle strategies in a kind of scissor/rock/paper style.
- has better race interactions - including insults you can GIVE, not just take.
- hs better ship tracking - you can see where all your ships are all the time, and the enemy's too, of they're in range of a sensor.

ok - GalCiv has a much larger tech-tree. It has more planets and planet types. But is endless hours of researching and colonising and little else for maybe a day or two (in a Gig map, with perhaps 4 major races) really what this sort of game is all about?

Yes!

This is a turn based strategy game - not RTS

you can see where all your ships are all the time, and the enemy's too, of they're in range of a sensor.

You can do that in GC2 with the right options selected on the minimap.

Well, GC2 doesn't have a late-game killing memory leak like BotF. Also, BotF was really kinda crappy. Like, Star Wars Rebellion crappy. The license was the only thing holding either of them up. Oh, also GC2 has more major races, not just 5 total and then a bajillion minor races. Plus you can make your own.

Now, keep in mind that even though they suck, I still love to play them both

No, it just seems to have issues right around the beginning and the middle... kind of makes it pointless to say there is no memory leak at the end game because you can't get to the end game! As you can tell, I am getting a little more than pissed with regards to the issues this game has.

I have had no problems with GCII DA, crashing, or becomeing unplayable. I am using a celeron 1.2 processor, 1.5 meg memmory, and geforce 5700 256 graphics card, and I play large universe, with 9 opponents. I turn down some of the eye candy if I want to play a quick game, but If I want to get immersed into the game, it is high graphics, and zoom in close, and take my time.

Oh, and I turn off the internet, before I begin playing, to free up resources.

Exactly my point. There are those of you who have never had any issues and I am failing to see what the major difference is. My computer far out-trumps yours and yet I am having memory write issues which in effect give me a CTD. This happens regardless of settings. Once again, just to be clear, my rig puts yours to shame if you want to compare general numbers, no offense meant of course, and yet you can run it and I can't. I would like to see what the DEVS have to say regarding this since I have nothing running, nothing hidden, nothing whatsoever that I can see that would cause the memory write issue I am having... and when Carielf really doesn't know what's going on after reading my debug then I am at a loss myself.

Perhaps there's an actual physical issue with your memory itself? Or it could be a bad disk sector too affecting virtual memory.

To see if there are any issues with your RAM modules, you can give MemTest86 a try. If you have a floppy drive you can use the pre-compiled installable for Windows on the Free Downloads page. If not, you'll need to get a bootable image and burn it to a CD.

I am open to anything Kryo, you know this, and I will give this a try as well, but shouldn't I have these same issues running something else as well? No other games crash, stutter, etc. No other programs have issues either. The only build that seemed to work was the first release of DA (I haven't gone back to DL... just can't do it). Every diagnostics program I've run comes up empty... nothing wrong with my system as far as the programs can tell. I haven't tried the one you recommended and I don't have a floppy, although I can probably rob the one from my old pc and use it... I don't know Kryo, I am just at a loss right now and desperately want to play this game. Frustration is winning out so far... thinking of just going back to the console, period.

Maybe so, but it's possible no other programs you use gives your RAM such a thorough workout as GC2 does
