Modding and Metaverse.

There are many people here that like both and use both.

What my point is,
Is it possible to have both.

Because lots of mods change xml files outside the mods folder and therefore make the Metaverse cheats flag enable.

Is it possible that all "official" mods work from inside the mods folder alone?

If all these mods were purely in the Mods folder the Metaverse games could just ignore them, therefore stopping this mod/metaverse cheats issue.

Hope I'm not missing a vital thread on this, It must have been discussed before, I just cant find it.

You'll only get flagged for using mods if you alter the stuff in the MetaverseData folder. Anything outside of that can be modded freely. Altering the game's base files vs using the mods folder doesn't really matter, since they are not used in metaverse games anyway.

thanks for clearing that up kryo,
I read that if a mod changes any xml file it isn't Meta compatible.

That made me think, totally in the wrong direction, obviously, I digress to your wisdom.

No mods, except a few grpahical ones, work with the metaverse, however if a small alteration to the game can be included at some point, I am trying to set up an independent metaverse that works with mods, possibly working with Kryo's AltMeta.

Sounds interesting, Two different versions of the meta - Mod compatibility issue.
Then how about a Meta compatibility flag for mods in the library that don't affect the scoring, Officially checked and sanctioned.

If my previous question is still valid, then maybe it could all be worked from the mods folder. I'm no programmer , But if something can be introduced into the game structure.

Am I correct, then, in assuming that games with custom opponents are Metaverse-compatible, then, given that the custom race XML files reside in the DA root directory?

Custom opponents are fine. I'm not sure though if you can manually change their natural (free) abilities--that limitation may or may not only apply to the player's race.

Then, how are we to be assured that any xml programmer wont be able to manipulate meta scores?

You cant change the starting techs or natural abilities on a custom opponent otherwise custom opponents are fine. I'm a programmer but I mostly do textures sound etc. I could probably work it out but It would just take me a while.

Yeah that would be bad for a programmer to change meta scores.

It would be pointless anyway, what a waste of time.
Getting a good score is mostly personal.

Because the XML files used when playing meta are in the MetaverseData folder and if anyone edits these files it causes a cheat flag.

That presumably solves the issue, like i hoped to intimate earlier, some people have imagination that belies facts. I will read some replies more and others less from now on
