First impressions--is DA a much longer game than DL?

Playing my first DA game on a huge galaxy.
Maybe I am wrong but it seems like even with techs set
initially at their fastest, it takes longer to get good techs.

Harder to get money--particularly since the anomalies tend to give
less money. I haven't seen a 2500bc anomaly yet but a bunch
of 100 bc ones.

Also I was surprised when I researched my first non-regular planets--aquatic, I still only had part of the pie. I had half researched it and it would take a long time to get all the goodies of the planet. With half-researching it, it would take forever to build stuff like factores unless you quick build them by buying them.

Now I know Stardock wanted a different game with DA and wanted us to use different strategies.

In DL, I used to play a huge galaxy with two opponents in about 10 hours on crippling. I am guessing it would take a lot longer in DA. I like some of the changes but I get bored waiting for things to move along.

Also, it seem harder or longer to get faster moving ships.

DA has never struck me as particularly faster or slower than DL. Only difference might be that the planet governors have been stripped down, which I never used in DL anyway.

10 hours for a huge galaxy sounds about right, both in DL and in DA. While ship speed and money are certainly harder to come by I've never really noticed a substantive difference in overall game length. You're still learning your way through the changes, which is probably what's slowing you down. Once you get the hang of it the pacing isn't really any slower.

I personally feel the pace is fine, ships seem a bit slower, but other than that, feels great (better imho).

It seems slower to me, but that is mostly because my system sucks and I take a lot longer per turn (I am #3 in the galaxy and at war with #'s 1, 2 and 4).

Pace seemed fine to me. There might be a mod to speed up techs though.

Has anyone ever told you you have a talent for diplomacy?

I feel that DA is a bit better than DL because you can't zip across the galaxy in a single turn. Engines were absurd before the resize and recost that came with DA. I feel like I'm actually beating an opponent fair and square if I use ships that are balanced for speed.

Not if you are using spore ships.

I think it spreads out the first phase of the game a bit more, since you have to research techs to colonize the different planet types. But the end seems about the same (although obvious the end would probably start later)
