Galactic Disease Crushes Drengin Empire

The plague didn't help them much either

I was playing a Huge galaxy as the Altarians, and everyone was fighting the Drengin. They probably wouldn't have won, but put up a good fight. Then the galactic disease hit. I researched the cure in two turns (putting all my efforts into research), but others didn't. The Drengin, for example, blithely kept researching Phasors VII. Okay, maybe they'll research the cure when they're done? I don't know. They never finished. Apparently, their morale was so low already that when the disease hit, all of their colonies stopped producing anything. No social, military, or research, nothing. Then the plague event occurred, and their population plummeted. It's been quite a while and nobody else seems to have cured it.

Probably the weirdest thing is that they were still ranked #1, because of their large military. It was mostly those worthless Super Dominator corvettes (I destroyed 78 of them when they attacked one medium hull in waves of 3 with no damage).

I'm curious, though: What, exactly, were the Drengin doing that caused them to crash so badly when the disease occurred?

It could be the support they were paying on all those useless ships, crippling their economy, lol.

Last time I got that I researched the cure and could barely give it away in trade to the AI. It just doesn't seem like they care about their people's health.

I got the plague too. Took some time for them to research it, but some did.

The Drengin didnt.

I´m kind of glad, because I was playing in Ultimate dificulty and the Drengin were conquering everyone.

You would think the plaque would give the drengin a massive production boost
since their death furnaces would have plenty of fuel!!

Macabre, but quite funny. The only problem is the Drengin feeding the furnaces are about to be the next ones in themselves

I had this happen too, I'd like the disease cure get put on the priority list for all the AIs and I'd also like to see the support cost for the 'super dominator' corvettes dropped when the AI is Drengin. Half the time I need to not play with the Drengin in my games, or I need to declare war on them just to clear up those corvettes because the ridiculous number of them eat up memory and crash the game on my system.

hey, free target drones for training your ships!

Yeah, in my current game, the Drengin, Korath and even Terrans are simply not researching the tech at all, which is horrible on their part since so many of their planets have under a billion people on them making them not only easy to conquer but ruining their economy.

In my opinion, if that mega event occurs, all the other AIs should give a much higher priority to researching the cure, otherwise they will fall seriously behind those that do, and essentially be wiped from the game if they don't ever get to it rather than researching Enhanced Miniaturization or something.

Fortunately in my current game when the disease struck--pretty late game too--seems like all the civs researched the cure right away. I had mine done in one turn, the other civs took a bit longer, so I'm betting they still finished the current line of research before switching. I'd like to see that changed.

Reason I think that is because between my civ and the Terrans, we pretty much each had 45% of the galaxy (large, abundant everything), so we both had huge research budgets and strong econs. The terran pop dropped off for several turns before pulling back up which indicates the cure. My population hardly had a bump in it by compairson.

There is a vast difference in the computer AI depending on the difficulty level chosen for the game. The higher the difficulty level, the better the computer players are at dealing with any challenges. At low difficulty levels, the computer players can even be lobotomized, and continue to research Phasors VII rather than get a cure to that Syphilis problem they picked up on the Planet Thalas.

wait, i thought when you researched the plague cure, all the other civs gets to benefit automattically. What i mean by this is that once i researched it, all the civs gets accessed to the technology. or am i wrong??

No, only you have it. Unless you do the United Planets agreement where you share unique techs and that gets shared.

But anyway, if you are playing at a lower difficulty level because you are a newbie (me) or have a total crap computer (me also) its easier to just give away the cure. 'Cuz those Drengin love their Phasors.

It was on Intelligent, which should give the AI as much intelligence as it gets.

What version are you playing on? The AIs should cope with these events better under the latest patch than they did in the initial release.

Yeah, I'm playing the latest patch and both the Drengin and the Yor started researching the cure right away(crippling). They just didn't have the research power I had, so they took about 5-6 turns, where I took just 1. With the soldiering ability lowered to 0, this makes for a great time to attack the Yor!(Funny how artificial life forms can be affected by the same disease as others, but meh.)

I've noticed in many games that the Drengin never attempt to cure themselves. Usually only the tech happy civs will actually ever do so.

Their attitude never changes though. So even if you cajole them into an alliance because of the disease, and then gift them the cure, they will eventually rise up against you if you're a Good civ.

What do you expect? They are evil S.O.B.s.

I say let the disease run its course and let it purge the weak....then the ones that are left would be immune to it!

'course that never happens in games!

The first time I encountered the plague, I was playing a gigantic map with three races, and my own custom race who were total superbreeders but evil. Long story short, the end was me vs the superbreeders. I thought I was dead, they had over 4/5 of the galaxy. I kept trying for some big comback but I always got shot down, luckily I was able to hold firm thanks to my great soldiering bonous and my full planetary defense. I just kept hitting end turn seeing when I'd die. Then the plague hit. After only 20 turns (give or take a few) they totally shut down, all production, all research, all infuence. My influence captured over 10 of their worlds then all I had to do was send out like a hundred transports and some good military, they still had all of their ships... I swear, I had 1 soldier on each and I won every time except on their homeworld. I tried again with another 1 and won. For once there was a mega event that would benefit me... I felt kind of bumbed though. The plague kind of offset the game majorly because they didn't even try to research the cure or beg it from me.

Ya, evil saints of brutality. Without evil there could be no good, at least that's my excuse  .
