Have you read through CariElf's modding guide?

WWW Link

And I sure hope you take more time with correct spelling and punctuation in the files you are modding, than you did in your post.

yes but the files he mentioned i haven't heard of i would take care of spelling in mods but as long as ppl understand it dosne't matter im not as dum as u might think i would also like to know how to add new techs with descriptions i would know how the ai works with them with the values and that sooo many questions on this game cant the ppl who made it make it easier to mod or something?

Most of the files are located in C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Data\English for Dread Lords. For Dark Avatar they would be in the GalCiv2\Dark Avatar folders.

And it makes it easier to read if you take a little time to add punctuation and spell correctly. Lazy sometimes appears dumb.

It's all covered in the modding guide Moosetek linked above.

this is probably the easiest game to mod that's ever been made.

the only thing i'd add is that you should make sure you have a fully updated version of the game, because several mod support featuers were added circa version 1.2 (they don't help you mod, but they help you use your mods more easily).

You can also check out the tutorials on TBS Modder and ask any questions you want there as there are quite a few specific tutorials and a helpful and friendly community.

With the possible exception of FreeLancer, very much agreed!

how do i add the shortcut back to the menu because i dont no how to restore the shortcut so i hav to put the disk in every time.

Go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2 in Windows Explorer, right click on GC2Launch.exe and choose 'copy'.

If you have Dark Avatar, instead of that go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar and right click / copy DALaunch.exe.

Right click on your Start button, and pick Open.

Go into the Programs folder in the Explorer window that appeared.

Right click on some empty space, and pick Paste Shortcut.

You now have a new shortcut to the game.

The game shouldn't ever ask for a disc in the drive, unless it is somehow no longer installed properly and the launcher is prompting you to install rather than play.

You can remove it in add/remove programs in control panel, then insert the disc and install it again as you did when you first got it. It is strongly advised that you also get and install the 1.4x patch from the downloads page of the site here once you've reinstalled the game.

As I said, you will need to get the update, which you can get here. Just make sure before you download it you have your serial number handy as you will need it.

And thanks for downloading my mod .

is this download free the retial 1? macmatt and what does it do to the game i do have the serial # ohh where do i download it to? thx
Reply #22 Top
The download is indeed free. You will need to download the Retail Update: v1.40X . Just download it anywhere and run it. It will update automatically.

The update does a lot to the game, too many things to mention but one thing it does is add the mod folder.
