AI Turns To Fools

...after CTRL+N

I setup a game with Tough - no AI randomization. I did CTRL+N a few times. About two hours into playing I started to wonder why the AIs weren't very active, but due to spacing I really only had one near me, and they weren't doing anything (except maybe drooling). So I check, and they're all at Fool level of intelligence.

I'd heard there was a bug in campaigns where CTRL+N caused AI levels to drop with CTRL+N. This was a "sandbox" game, and I'm sure I set it to Tough with no randomizing.

In that same game, I was playing as the Yor and didn't have the ability to colonize barren worlds (which I didn't notice til a good ways in either due to there being none near me).

When's the next patch? I'd really prefer not to waste hours playing just to find out the AI has magically degraded.

Nobody else has this issue? If there's something I'm doing wrong (other than pressing ctrl+n) than do tell!

Is this in DL or DA, and do you have the latest version?

DA, and I don't have the latest - haven't even tried it yet - (and saw no mention of this in the sparse patch notes).

This was happening prior to the most recent (72?) patch. I stopped playing because you can't see the AI intelligence levels at the beginning of a new game (even with contact) and I didn't want to spend 1-2 hours playing long enough to see when this was happening.

Kind of a drag to start on "Tough" with no AI randomization and end up playing against all "fools", and not discovering it til 1-2 hours into play.

I'll probably go for a new game this weekend with the new patch (I always update if playing). I don't have as much time to play during the week. Actually, if I start a good game on the weekend it usually takes me all week to finish. I'm slow, I guess!

Thanks for the reply!

Come on, its a great penalty for ctrl-ning too many times. Just play with what you are dealt, you'll be better for it

All in good fun, of course, you can play however you like

Thank you!

I did a lot of Ctrl+N in my first games. After that, take what you're dealt. There will always be one or two races that get screwed, just be happy that if you're one of them, you're human, and probably smart enough to get out of it and win, despite the bad start.

So on the one hand, yes, it's a bug and should be fixed, but on the other hand, I have to say it's a bug you shouldn't be encountering that often.
