Your ideas for the next update!

Your ideas for the next update!

Features, tweaks, changes, you name it!

For those of you who are new to buying Stardock software, the product you purchase is just the beginning of what you get.

Stardock updates it software based on customer feedback.

In the case of Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar we are lookoing for suggestions and feature requests that players would like to see in a free update.

Mind you, these can't be massive new features (i.e. "Multiplayer" or "Fleet combat") but rather little things that you think would make the game more enjoyable for you and others.

Let us know what you'd like us to do. We are at your disposal!

i also think we should be able to use those uninhabitable planets for something other then nice little circles on my zoomed out map. i think a habitable planet in a system with other solid uninhabitable planets should be able to set up some sort of base for extra manu points and for other gas giant and/or ringed planets youd get research points. i know we already do this for rings and moons around the colonized planet but there is no added bonus for being in a 5 planet system vs a 1 planet system. i just think its somthing worth thinking about...

I really like the idea of supply lines for starbases. it would deffinitly eliminate the hassel of dealing with constructors. however for those worried about not being able to blow up incomming constructors to enemy starbases, id say maybe make it like a trade rute were you could kill the little transports that are constantly running back and forth. for every little guy you kill it sets the production/bonuses of that starbase back an apropreat amount.

If there were a continueing supply component, the starbase could even degrade over time, since it's not getting the supplies it needs to repair and sustain itself. And having to replace the supply ships would require additional military resources from the supplying planet. I wouldn't want to be required to manually build a supply ship though, that should just be an automatic thing. And it wouldn't happen if there were an enemy ship blocking the supply line, it would have to be cleared first before the ship was replaced. So you could effectively lay siege on a starbase, provided the enemy didn't switch to another supplying planet elsewhere and move the line.

One logical option would be the ability to set up a sensor base on these planets. It would do nothing but keep an eye out for any ships in the area.

And about sensors... I don't really like that, when i have the knowledge of sensor IV and maybe i have even built the eye of the universe, my planet does still have a sensor's range narrower than ships or starbases. It make sense (to me at least) that, in particular if you have built the eye of the universe, all your planets have the maximum sensor range.

i think either planets should get an automatic and substancial boost to their sensor range with each progresive sensor tech, or have a "sensor aray" you could build in orbit. this would not take up any ground space but would require a spacedock. this same trian of thought could be used to build orbital batteris or huge orbital deffense network for deffending your planets... at the very least you could add some sensor radius to the fleet manager so that its alittle more useful... maybe then the AI would actually use it. that would be ok with me too

My 2 cents.

1. Make spies optional. Those of us who were happy with the old slider-based espionage system should be able to use that system.

2. Bigger Galaxys! I dream of the day I can play using A 20x20 sector map, or even larger.

3. More races. I want to set up a game against 20 or more oponents.

4. An option to eliminate Star Systems with 2 or 3 habitable worlds, or at least make such systems less common.

5. Fewer habitable planets. I play with planets set at "abundant" and habitable planets set at "rare", and yet there are still too many Earth-like worlds for my taste. I suggest a slider to set a given pecentage of planets to be habitable, 5% or 10%, ect.

thanks!

Implement an option that allows AI and player ships to fight as a fleet when in orbit of a planet with out the need for the OFM tile improvement. Preferably with some limit based on logistics which the OFM could then improve on.

Cheers

This may sound rather chicken and lame, but I would like to see something like Galactic Civilizations Alterian Prophecy were you can turn on the cheats within the game, so that you don't have to mess with coding and having to add suffixies to the running code of the game a.k.a... "C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\galciv2.exe" cheat

Domestic or widespread piracy. These roaming squadrons dont have any side and are not a faction but merly a small number of free floating (random placed) ships that can attack anyone, and it will encourage the player to think through its traderoutes/starbases so its not allways the most profitable(best) thats gets built but merly the most manageable. Keeps the player on its toes even during an "dominance" style of play

Asteroid belts would make great hidden bases for pirates. You wouldn't be able to detect them until you'd get close enough.

I know I've attempted to sell this idea before, but in the context of this thread, I will briefly restate.

GC2 is a lovely balanced game; therefore, for a future GC3 - I would like...

1. A realistic 3D universe (similar to that in Homeworld)

2. Combine turn-based building/researching with REAL TIME Space & Planetary combat (similar to that in the Total War Series). This change will convert a somewhat dry game into a much more interesting/exciting 21st Century Blast - Challenge.

3. And,, perhaps the most important! I want to see more space civs led by beautiful scantily clad chics, such as Gaia, Santiago, that babe in MOO2, or Jennifer Tilly.

a. These "Amazon" led civs would have great psychological advantages. For example; If, during a battle, the lady warrior cries-the male led civ looses all its' defenses (armor, radar, etc.). During negotiation/trading, if she insists, the chance of the male led civ agreeing is increased by 100%. Etc., etc....

The Stardock people should not be afraid to fashion GC 3 into the most fantastic PC Game paradigm ever attempted (Benny Hill said a paradigm was $.20) but I digress. They should go where "no man has gone before."

After the completion of GC3, Bruce Shelley & Sid Meiers will become forgotten individuals - next to the brilliant staff at Stardock (who will lead the new Gamers Political party to a landslide victory in the 2012 election). They will then proceed to save the world.

You do know the world is going to blow up in 2013 right? Such a short time in office for a governing body that is actually of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Just thought of something though... that means we have to rush develop GC III before the 08 elections and get the devs on the ballots. This end of the world thing could actually have some positives to it, huh?

i agree with the more pirats thing. the idea of "smuglers" "blackmarketers" has been brought up befor. but i really like it. i think there should be a minor race call the ... "somthingcool order" that would not have a home planet, but rather a series of modified starbases that would have ship building abilities. that way they could always be moving and building new starbases as old ones are found and eliminated by any civ looking to iradicate them. they would buy and sell techs and weapons and ships for cheep. you could eliminate this minor, but only by killing their last starbase. wich should be hard to do cause they should try to set up their bases in very remote areas. and maybe even have some symple camoflage ability like... they are hidden when behind the fog of war. you can only see them if your ship or planet can actually see them on their sensors.

oh and they should not affect a military victory. since they dont have a planet you should not have to kill them to win that way.

I'd like to see all habitable planets with an extra ring around them while zoomed out. I usually play zoomed out as far as I can, and it's really easy to miss out on those PQ 1s,2s and 3s. And it's a bit of a pain having to mouse over each planet on the map in order to find them. I get really annoyed when the AI builds a colony near my territory on some PQ2 that I missed out on.

There's a tab on the planets list that will show you all the unowned planets. Just click one and it'll centre on it

That's kind of an awkward way of doing tings for me. I may just end up clicking on a planet on the other side of galaxy that I'm not really interested in. I'd much rather be able to see it on the map, the same way I can see the PQ 4 and above now. They just need to add the same extra circle for PQ 3s and under that they now have for the PQ 4s. It's not really that big of a deal. Frankly I see it as something they overlooked when they changed the nature of the planets. DL didn't really have anything below PQ 4, there was no reason to have that extra circle. Now there is.

There's a discussion going in another thread about that checkbox in Options that removes functional components in the ship design window. That should not be turned on by default. It's not good for newbies who are trying to get an idea of how to design ships. When I first started playing, I was baffled for the longest time how to best to go about it, since I wasn't able to use the default ships as a reference. It took me awhile to find that option and turn it off so I could have a look. Leave off and later if people want to use for convenience sake, they can turn it on themselves. I personally never use it, as I don't always remember what I've got installed on my ships.

I would like the save ships to hard drive option to be something I can select from within the ship designer itself. There are some basic designs that I would like to be able to save, but there are also minor modifications here and there that I don't. It would be great if I could just manually choose which ones I wanted to have come up in later games. So instead of just having a Save button when you're finished with a design, maybe have both a Save and a Use button, with the Use button just loading the ship into the game without it going to your drive.

A few tidbits, before i go to sleep.

The general UI needs a major overhaul. The way it keeps pestering you for things like starbase upgradal, the way it deselects whatever you just built so if you want to bild ten factories you have to click tewnty times instead of selecting the improvement and clicking "Build" 10 times. This works sporadically, and more often than not with economic centers, but for me, who mainly uses specialized planets, its a pain in the metaphorical butt. Popups that "freeze" the game but doesnt really pause it behind are also a major concern. Most of the quirks are ironed out by sheer "getting used to"-ness, as i cant today point to any specific things that i have issues with, but i remember being very frustrated with the UI when i first picked up the game, and get reminded again and again in every game. Such as not being able to give auto-type orders to ships that are stacked. Ive learnt to simply not stack ships, but that way you lose one grid of movement every time you want to issue and order.

The diplomatic system needs a major overhaul. I want to be able to make demands, based on my superiority in different areas. This has been covered, but its mentioned again for emphasis. Rome: Total war for example, has a great system for demands/begging and such. Also, the AI should be able to do more replies than "OKOK DONT KILL ME LOL" and "No way, pathetic worm. Submit to my rule!". Having a system for hooks would also be nice, that way the AI could accept trades that were beneficial for you and say "...but you owe me one". And the more times the AI requests your help/whatever and you decline, your relation would fall and the AI would consider you untrustworthy, or the other way around if you always honor your promises. Theres a great system for this in Hearts of Iron 2/Doomsday, were you can "guarantee independence" (and much other stuff) for other countries, and thus, threathen anyone who should attack that country with war. The treaties were a step in the right direction, but it can be so much waster and better.

The custom race thing needs a major overhaul. Or not really the custom race. Thats fine. The fixed races have an unfair advantage in bonus stacking and simply getting to hights no custom civilization can muster. You should be able to replicate the starting conditions on any of the fixed races with the custom points pool. Super powers are a step in the right direction, but the more special type bonuses (such as Yor morale) should be open to anyone. Make the race setup to be totally free and balanced.

Make the game work under Ubuntu Linux. Seriously, i LOVE the game, but i would like to be able to play it on my laptop too. (I know thats asking for too much, but hey, it needed saying.

This my pet peeve of the game! It is so damn annoying going into the stardock or details screen from a planet I have just established and then have some in game event come up and kick me out of it. I first have to deal with the event, then I have to track down the planet I was dealing with in order to finish whatever it was I doing in the first place. Sometimes I even forget what I was up to because of other things occuring from there, and the planet sits around being neglected until later. Or I might forget what it was that I even wanted to do. Let me take care of the planet first, and have the game take a break for a minute or two until I'm ready to go back to it! Please!

Top vs Bottom!

I know you can preset teams when you make a custom scenario, but it would be so much nicer if you could just do it before the match begins. Already there exists an option to make AI players your teammates... yet you can't create an opposing team?
Please!

Ooooh, good one, I noticed this as well.

Just a few requests from me

1: Trading needs to be more profitable I dont even do it anymore . For example I will have long routes using a fast trading ship and get maybe 12bc /route and max out getting something like 250bc for trading ..wow very low when you compare it to getting 6-8000bc for tourism ! I concentrate on building for tourism and influence and economy .

2: I like how you put the oldest/newest categories for planetary improvements that is a nice touch ! Now to top it off it would be great to be able to have a custom slot and the ability to obsolete improvements from that custom slot . Like lets say you just got stock exchange planetary improvement. Now it would be great if I could drag and drop that into the custom slot along with the other things you want . What im saying is by mid to end game I am only building 3-4 things such as stock exchange ,industrial sector, embassy and maybe a farm for building pop for invading . It sucks when im rushing along and I have 50+ colonies and I have to dig through 20 planetary improvemts to get to the one I want . I hope you get what im saying I really do think that would be an easy one for you guys and would not require gameplay tweaks .

Adding meaning to your area of influence. So that its YOUR space. No ships can cross, or only unarmed ships or only trade ships or only warm relations or better or a screen pops up asking your permission. "We're on a humanitarian mission" type of thing. Saying NO or YES can have an impact on your relations. If relations change for the worse after that you may be asked to leave someone's space.

Instead of using your area of influence it coula also be a certain distance to your planets or to your planets, ships and starbases.

wha-da-ya think?

oh and Princess Leia in her Jabba's Palace slave outfit, galactic wonder?

Ok sorry i need to add this

I would really like to be able to move the pop up window that ummmm pops-up, when a constructor reaches a star base. It askes if i want to upgrade but sometimes i can't see which start base its refering to. If i could move the window then i can tell what it was i sent that constuctor there to do.
