Looking for a graphics conversion program

Need to convert to RAW format

Hello all. I was looking around on the net for a graphics program to convert normal formats such as jpg/bmp/png to RAW to be used as height maps. I haven't had much luck so far. If anyone could point me to a good program I would appreciate the gesture.

I Believe it might do RAW.
I've heard good things about IrfanView.
I used to use it to convert bmp to tga for Morrowind back in teh day, lol
Worked really well too.

Im assuming then, you dont have photoshop (which does raw, and pretty much anything else you want to do with 2d images), for whatever reason. In which case you should check out Gimp (free, open source photoshop). I dont see anywhere in the documentation where it specifies raw, but its ambiguous, and Id be suprised if it didnt.

In any event, its good to have in lieu of Photoshop just as an image editor. If youre going to be doing texturing/height/normal/bump map work, youre going to want an image editor.

Gimp is really good. Doesn't do RAW though. Unfortunately, neither does Irfanview.

Thanks for the link...Gimp does alot of things!

Check out a program called xnview. It isn't much of an editor, more of an image browser/manager, but it lets you open and save almost any image format to any other image format...and it is free.

Good call on Xnview.

For anyone interested in making their own RAW files for custom planets, Xnview can do everything you need to do to get to the 384x192 256 grayscale 8-bit .RAW format!

Thanks again SetarcosNous!
