Do enemy AI still surrender?

I have not seen a single defeated empire retire.

Right now I am about 2/3 done with a gigantic game and enemy empires will not surrender.

I have 400+ planets and some of my enemies have less than 5 planets and 0 ships and they will not surrender. They don't surrender to me or to their neigboring nations.

I am just wondering if this is unique to my experience?

I now realize that I have not seen a single surrender in any of my DL games.

PS: Also, have you noticed that the number of enemy spies increases each time you load a game? I have had a could of turns that took more than 1 hour to complete, but had to save and finish later. Each time I load the number of enemy spies on my planets increases even though I am still on the same turn of the game.

Oopps...

I meant in my DA games, not DL games... duh. My mistake. Actually, there are a number of typos, but I can't seem to edit to fix it...

i've seen surrenders. i assume they're at war with someone, and you're not just expected them to surrender.

one thing: it's now possible to disable surrenders. i'm not sure how you can check, except by starting to start a new game. it's one of the options next to the victory conditions.

Well I find it slightly annoying to have empires surrender without one space battle. I had the Dregian, Torian, Korx all surrender to the Drath. The Aceans surrendered because they started a war with me to the Drath too. Then the Yor attacked my ally the Altarian. Came in with my fleet of 21 Lp and a invasion fleet of 15 LP took one planet and they rolled over. It might be too easy for them to surrender.

Seems to me that only two races go for a land grab to in Battle of the Gods, the Thalan and Acrean.

Duh

I see surrenders in DA< though there's a toggle to turn them off. You might make sure you haven't done that.

Yeah, I am at war. I have been at war with one nation for over 1 year.

They only have 1 planet left, and have been down to one planet for over 7 weeks. They have 0 ships. We are at war, but they won't surrender. I would rather not invade them, but they won't negotiate and they won't surrender.

I would be willing to negotiate peace, but they won't negotiate either.

It is just weird.

sounds like you have surrender option turned off if so they won't

If memory serves me correctly DL early versions had quite reasonable surrender AI, but now with DA they seem stubborn as hell. DL marketing slogans was "no more mop up" but seems like thats been dropped with DA

Its understandable that some stuff get broken as features are added in, but none the less, non working surrendering routines with AI is exremely frustrating at times.

I can not prove that I didn't turn Surrender off. There is no way to check it in game. However, I do not believe that I turned it off. And when I start a new game it is not turned off. All other settings remain, so I have to assume that surrender is not turned off.

In the end it didn't matter. In what seems like the strangest trade ever... In two turns I was able to reduce all remaining nations to 1 planet each.

I declared war on everyone. In the next turn I was allowed to trade with them all. They traded me all of their planets (something like 150 planets).

I simply gave each nation peace and I gave them 3 to 5 medium sized war ships.

It made no sense.

If I offered them peace they would give me 1 or 2 planets, sometimes 0 planets. But if I threw in 3 or 4 medium sized war ships then they would give me all of their planets and all of their money.

I don't want to end the game nor do I want to face 400 pirates, so I left each nation with just one tiny planet.

The game is now over. All I have to do is wait. They will battle each other as I will keep them at war with each other.

Very weird.
