Have an idea or a change to the game you'd like to see? Let us know and we'll take a look at it.

Suggestions should be things that don't fundamentally change the scope of the game or require immense levels of development time.

We'll be monitoring this thread.

Stackable ship combat, ala HOMM series. If I have 500 corvettes, they should put a dint in a 10 ship fleet of dreadnaughts, perhaps taking out one or two. Single ship combat is neat in a board game sort of way, but more strategies would be available if you could stack ships in combat, or have to prevent a stacked group of ships attacking you.

If this would screw up the game design.. I'll keep looking at single ship combat as a board game sort of manevuer.. I can live with it. LOL

This is cliped in from another thread it relates to fleabitfox's previous comment.

The "super fleet" can be hard to beat, but it should be a factor in the game. You make sacrifices to your overall strategy to have a super fleet, especially in larger galaxies. I.E. weaker defense of areas where fleet is not patroling. In anycase it should be modified to allow for mas damage from multiple ships rather than one ship firing at a time.
If you are concerned with super fleets, you could always deter them by having a modified anti matter missle that does stack (area) damage (like a nuke).

Confirmation when killing a trade route (Accidently deleted one last night - grrr).

And another vote for 'What would you offer for.." option on the trade screen to get things started for a negotiation.

An new defensive ship maybe? By the time dreadnaughts are around, BattleHammers/Axe's are pointless, and the best defensive ships are also the best attacking ships. Can we get a ship that has a chance of defending againt a dreadnaught or avatar, or Overlord?

The end game has no strategic choice, as the best attacking unit, is also the best defensive unit, and also is the longest ranged unit etc etc. I would prefer more specific ships of specif roles. (Yes i know the ranger has long range, but doesnt seem to win very much vs a dreanaught, let alone an avatar or overlord)

Posted this in another thread:

How about a Starbase 'governor' so to set up a build order of modules thus decreasing micro-management even more.

I tend to build SBs in sectors that have 2 more planets, which can get to be alot in tight star clusters.

Domestic Electioneering Idea:

To prohibit cheating (i.e. lowering tax rate the month before an election to win it) average morale for the 2 years (1 year, or 6 months).

I know this is asking a lot, but I would love - I mean, absolutely adore - an interface which would allow us to write our own AIs for the game. I've been reading some of the threads about AI goofs, thinking 'that doesn't sound too hard to fix'. I'd really enjoy the oppourtunity to prove myself wrong :)

I had another thread on this, but I might as well make it in the official thread too.

My suggestion was about the United Planetary Council. Being able to buy infulence points is a good idea, however it is flawed in the fact that the UPC issues are random. Some UPC events are very important and other don't matter at all. You trade some money or tech for some infuence points and they could end up being wasted on something you don't care about.

The suggestion is, since the game notifies you that the UP is meeting a month before it happens, during that time it also tell you the issue.

Now I did think of perhaps a reason you left out telling the issues to the players, because maybe buying influence is supposed to be kind of a gamble? The trick about my suggestion, is for the AI to prize influence point more the closer to a UPC meeting. The month after a vote, influence points are only mildly valuable, but the month before they are prized possesions.

I would like to see an in-game technology tree, or some other form of technology help such as what was suggested in post #425. Building technologies can be a daunting task, especially when it is unclear how you can quickly come up with the innovation you need to fend off an enemy (or bring him to his knees). I found this out in my first game the hard way. ;)

Sorry if this has been said, as I only read the first 10 pages. ;)

Better tech tree. If a tech gives a new form of government or lets you talk to other civs, have it say that in the description or effects list.

More events and UP choices, and don't listen to the people who say they need to be nerfed. I like how they can drastically change a game. :)

Planetary bombardment!

Hey, is anybody reading these? ;)

Governors: I vote for getting social project stats from within the Governor screen.

Also would love, LOVE to be able to save the Governor build list from one game to the next. I'm starting to figure out what order I like things built, and am lazy. Don't like to have to redo the list every game.

Unless I am missing something, the mp3 player does not allow you to set diff playlists so your music changes when your alignment changes (I love that feature with the original music). This may be too much coding work, BUT if you guys get bored, I would love ya even more for this feature.

I'm not sure if it has been suggested before, but I think it would add strategic depth to have trade embargoes.

Resources:

Keep them on the map (i.e. no FOW) once discovered. If another race colonizes them the location of the original resource disappears, making it difficult to plan attacks strategically (i.e. were there strategic resources in this sector worth fighting for, again??)

Being able to capture trade vehicles on route to their destination would be great for reaping all the BC that it would have been worth.

How about every time you develop a new tech and option to "shop it" appears. When you click on "shop it", every race you know makes their best offer for it. Simply click on the one's you want to accept and be done with it. It's really tedious to have to go and contact every race and make an offer to sell one by one.
An alternative can be "trade it" where the AI offers tech for tech plus cash on one side or the other.

Suggestions,
Ship Guarrison doesn't seem to work for me, the ship
keeps coming up to be moved.
Morality issues are Good, Neutral, Evil at the moment...I suggest a fourth option that is not quite so obvious.. perhaps between good and neutral or between neutral and evil or perhaps even VERY VERY evil. The player might have to think about his choices a bit more because the "extra" choice would not always be the same.

When on the planet screen I know I can press the "zoom" button to show the galactic
minimap.. But it would be nice if I would be able to press some button on the
planet detail screen and the minimap would automagically center on that planet.
I know you can first push the planet list button and then push the planet and
then change back to minimap and it's centered on the selected planet, but it
would be nice if there was a quicker way..

Also.. A question: I know that the cultural improvements on starbases affect the
neighboring sectors also, but is it the same with other improvements ? So if I
build an improvement which ups my stat, does it affect only
the planets in the same sector as the starbase ?

I'd like to be able to zoom in and out on the main star map. Thanks

Suggestions on morale:

Adjustments to improve morale should work slower: at the moment it is like lower taxes => next turn morale skyrocks, morale should adjust more slowly to reward longer term planning of the player.

Please decrease a little bit the importance of population => putting half the people in colony ships and next turn people rejoice? It is a little bit cheesy.

Perhaps it is possible to work in some timelimited morale adjustments:

Bad for morale: Important planet is taken during war (important could be for example: Economic capital, 20% of your population lives there etc), Flagship gets destroyed (most advanced spaceship destroyed during combat) Things that would really impact morale in real live...

Good for morale: Winning in war takng important planets, defend against aggressor (for examle a morale boost if someone starts a war attacking a starbase, colony or trader ship)

The ability to request contacts from other races. For instance, say, I meet the Drengins and they're dealing with the Altarians. I'd like to be able to ask them to let me contact them for a price, rather then the task of having to search them out forever in space.

How about the ability to auction off tech or luxuries at the UP? So if I spend months researching aphrodisiacs and I want to make some money on them, I could auction them off at the UP to the highest bidder.... Now that would be a feature no had done in 4x before....
