Have an idea or a change to the game you'd like to see? Let us know and we'll take a look at it.

Suggestions should be things that don't fundamentally change the scope of the game or require immense levels of development time.

We'll be monitoring this thread.

Hate to break this to you, but there is no espionage slider for the minor races. That one's toggling the last major race you chose. Filed a bug on it earlier.

Display some semblance of Fog of War on the minimap. I'd much rather have something indicating my sensor range than the GalCiv watermark in the background.

The first night after I downloaded GalCiv, I started playing around 9 o'clock.

I realized I had a problem when I heard birds singing and noticed light coming in from the window :)

But now, onto suggestions!

Basic Stuff
~ Make more types of anomolies, with better bonuses, but also some with negatives. That's more fun ;)
~ Allow the space debris to go be used on something other than your survey ship....when my lowly Survey Ship USS Bucket'o'Bolts ends up with 27att/100def, I start to worry about game balance.
~ Fix the targetting bugs, add a way point system, and all those slider problems everyone's talking about.

Now for more ambitious ideas:
~ I for one want true multiplayer capability. The game SCREAMS for it. I have friends who won't get it solely because of this lack.
~ I heard about the epic story maker that was originally going to be included for when you win...that is such a cool idea. Get someone to get it functioning and in the game!
~ Consider more combat options...maybe even an optional 2D combat grid for the really intense battles. This would take a decent chunk of work and some AI routines, but for us die-hard tactical buffs, it would be great.
~ Allow for more control over the UP. Influence should allow one to alter not only the outcome of votes, but what comes up for voting - perhaps midway between meetings, a Resolutions Pending screen could come up, and you could choose from 3 UP resolutions...your influence would then alter the *probability* that that resolution would come up for voting next.

Ok, i'm done. Now go make this game even better! Oh, and when you get the chance, spiff up the sound effects

I'd like to be able to set up governors offline, as a full list of technology. It could either just work with the original four, or actually let me load in the data through a load file interface so I can have as many as I want and just switch. Right now, it's a pain to have to add techs to the list every time they're researched, when I'm going to want them in a specific order anyways. Just let the displayed list be the greatest common denominator of "what's been researched" and "what's in the data file".

1) Ability to zoom out of the main map. Everything is just too large to do any true management on the larger maps.

2) Tech tree. Tech tree. Tech tree. I understand the notion that it's more realistic to not know what's ahead, so perhaps this could be added as a toggle, but after I've played three dozen games, the lack of a tech tree just becomes frustrating; I know where the techs are for the most part, so a tech tree isn't ruining the surprise anymore.

3) In-game encyclopedia. This goes hand-in-hand with #2. This game is excellent when it comes to gameplay and presentation; my biggest problem is that I still don't know what half the techs, buildings, etc. really do. I want details, numbers, etc.

"Off Topic & Other Games" forum.
This may or may not be benificial to Stardock. I just know that I have to log into the Swordandpistol, etc to talk about other games. And get pointers to new info on upcoming releases, like MOO3 and GalCiv. We all play more than one strategy title and have this common interest. But if this would drain resources or point attention to much away from GalCiv I wouldn't want you to do it.

Very happy to see the GalCiv MOD forum. I am hoping it will be used by a lot of dedicated modders that don't even know GalCiv exist yet.

I would like to second the motion of post #292. It is somewhat frustrating when the AI has something you want, and you can figure out what it wants in return for it. I was thinking more in term of having a counter-offer made by the AI, but post 292 sounds pretty good as well. Another way of handling it may just be a indicator on you chances for the trade to go through with the AI, that way, players with a high bonus to diplomacy could really push that advantage.

Sorry if this has already been suggested.

Show a minimap on the diplomacy screen. If I'm going to offer systems or starships, I'd like to be able to know where they are currently.

I'd like to see an "offline" build queue available. What I'd like to do it be able to set a queue up that has everything under the sun in it BEFORE researching the techs and prioritize them before I research them. So the AI would build whatever is highest priority AND has been researched. If it hasn't been researched yet, it goes down the queue until it finds something that has.

This way I wouldn't have to keep adjusting my queue everytime I get a new social tech. Saving this and importing them game-game would be a godsend also.

Other races can contact you and request that you help them. Why can't you do the same? You should be able to ask races if they can help with tech/money/ships/starbases, etc. At current, if I ask them for anything without offering something in return it comes across as a demand. An option to demand/request should be available in the diplomacy screen.

Second Post!

A button to show anomolies in on the up right hand map like the population/autopilot routes/ect.

Autoexplore on ships to clear nearest black or something similar.

Starbases that are other peoples should have an icon on the map if you have seen them even if they are in Fog of war, maybe a grey'd out base indicationg that you dont know if they are still there or not.

Dialog Approach to Diplomacy
----------------------------

The [Arceans|Altarians|...] are [influential|vulnerable|attacking my trade routes|...]. I need you to [declare war|proclaim peace|destabilize|covertly work together].

...

You get the idea.

I like where we can take disadvantages for our race so we can take more advantages. Each one of the racial traits also offering negative choices. Maybe you could only take a maximum of 10 negative points in traits so you can take 20 positive points in traits overall.

One of the biggest problems with the research screen right now is that the icons to select a research problem are so big that there's only room for five or six projects on the screen at once. What about shrinking these overly large icons so that there is less scrolling to find the tech you want? Maybe something similar to the way the Ships panel on the right is done; just one or two lines for each tech. All we really need is the name of the tech and a small icon to show what field it is in.

In any screen where items are clicked on, especially the trade screen, please make it so you can see what the item is. For example, how am I to know whether I want starbase #127 or #64 if I don't know where they are located or what modules they have in them?

Also, the star systems from a alien, I would like to see where they are so I can choose the right one to try and trade away from him when he askes for peace.

Also the technology trade - I don't always remeber what each technology is.

Finally, it would be nice to see what the improvement is in the govenor screen to help choose which order they go in.

Ooh Oooh! Just thought of a fun one.

More interaction with the Senate. If you are a republic or higher, perhaps there can be events or something whereby you have bill before the Senate. If the bills pass (which would probably hinge on your control of the senate), you'd get some morale/economic bonuses, and if it fails you get penalties. I think it would add some more flavor to the game in regards to running a civilization.

Just a thought!

I love suggestion #310 (Off-line build que) as I too dislike having to re-add items onto my build que.

Multiplayer: Hotseat! Some of us would like to play the game with friends...and I dont think implementing MP is a hard thing...

Oh, and a biggie for me: The ability to play past the victory of the game. This was a feature I loved in Civ, and would like it here. I mean, would it be difficult to just allow the player to keep playing indefinitely?

Here two time-wasters I've encountered in the interface which would, I'm guessing, be relatively simple to fix. (If these have been mentioned, just count this as a second vote to address these issues.)

1) Launching constructors. Since I build a lot of these, and rarely stockpile them, it would be nice if it were an option to have them automatically launch out of orbit without the hassle of having the planet screen appear and launching them manually all the time. In the big, starbase-heavy games I've been playing, constructor management is the single most time-intensive aspect.

2) Adding stuff to the governor lists. The governors are great, but there's one problem: they aren't saved from game to game. It would be great if I could define them globally (from a file, for instance), listing all of the possible tech improvements, and then have the governors within each game fill in their build lists automatically as I discover new improvements.

im sure this suggestion had been mentioned before but a rally point of planets an option to set where you ships launch to after construction would be greatly appreciated. Especially when you have to direct 100 ships to the same point over and over and over again. gets tiresome :p *no pressure*

Two things:

When negotiating a trade, could you implement an option to have the Alien race offer you something - like the Civ III option.

How about a tech which would allow a Survey ship to scan the computers on other ships to gather their exploration records. Like in Star Trek when the Borg got Earth's location from the Enterprise computer banks.

Brad and all the fans - thank you for a great game and a great forum to discuss it. :)

It would be nice if there were some way to see what kind of bonuses/penalties a planet has. For example, one of the events allows the player to get a +ship construction bonus (by this I mean the bonus to quality and not rate). But because events aren't listed, I have no in-game method of checking to see which planet has that bonus.

It also becomes quite a bit of a hassle to find out what planets have what bonuses because I have to go into the details screen, check what facilities have been built, and manually add up all the modifier bonuses. It'd be nice if I could just see "Wardel I has +23% morale, +55% research, +41% ship construction, etc etc"

On a totally unrelated note, perhaps there could be a history section included along with the planet details? Something like "Wardel I was colonized in year X. In the same year the initial colonists ran into . The planet is now ."
