Mega Event in DA: Speed Limit

Hi all,

i love Galciv...i love DL AND DA.

Playing on a huge map...it´s a pain in the a... if the mega event "speed limit" comes into play. Well, does it ever ends? If not, please make it possible to research a solution or make it for a shorter time! (sorry for my bad english)

Pirates and all the other stuff is really fun - but the speed limit is not!

Greetings from Germany

It does not end and is permanent

Sorry man. There is no way around it.

On the plus side, for what ever reason, the AI will still research and Trade for Engine Tech (I can only assume to get smaller engines - more space for weapons).

Essentially you can get free tech this way.

I actually kind of like that one, it totally changes my usual strategies in the game and forces me to think much longer term.

but children are precious,,,, "think of the children"

But hang on, this is just a game and speed in a game has nothing to do with the safety of children rite??

Sorry, i'm just confused trying to keep up with the logic of all the nonsense laws going around that have absolutely nothing to do with anything in reality!

Meh...

So long as the limit is greater than 3, I'm fine.

I play as Yor, and I use defensive strategies that make use of their super ability that restricts other races ships speed to a max of 3. If this Mega event reduces speeds to 3 or less, I would have problems. It would at that point, nerf my super ability.

It's 5, which is substantial but not totally crippling.

Actually i really like the super slow ships, it makes me totally rethink my strategy! Now invasion are well planned out, and are much more of an undertaking. I would hate to see it nerfed.

I have noticed one interesting thing about the speed limit event: You can still build faster ships, and they will still go arbitrarily fast -- for their first turn. So that fast constructor ship will rocket away from your planet at 9 parsecs/week or whatever, and slow back down to 5 pc/wk thereafter.

Argh!

In the words of Mr. Hagar:

I can't drive 55!

This one drove me nuts, just as I was about to mop up the Iconians and end the game.

Thanks for the comments!

Yeah, it´s not that i wouldn´t like the idea....but, on a large or huge map it is REALLY painful. The speed for starting ships in the first round makes me very unhappy, cause, in such moments i remember how wonderful it can be to see fast traveling ships  !

Well, all i wanna say is....wouldn´t it be very sad to turn off (all the other) Mega Events only to avoid this "speedthing"? There should be a solution or a time limit!

I like it too. I was able to build a very strong economy and build up good fleets. Also allowed me to colonize much more strategically. I'm a big fan of mega events.

in Galciv 1 this Event was time-limitted ;o)

@ Jochen: Schön mal wieder eienn deutschen GC2 Fan zu treffen =O)

Never ending? That does change things a bit. I just got this event in my game(still on my first DA game). And 1 more turn to research Hyperwarp III! I was actually hoping for a mega event, as I was just past mid game and can see that I was going to win without any more trouble. I will still win, but with a little more trouble. I like the fact that the game can suddenly totally change. In DL, I was typically building 50+ speed transports by this point in the game.

I'm thinking that the extra jump off planets isn't worth it, except maybe some interceptors. It's probably a bug anyway, since it shows your ships movement points like 14/5. It'll just mean I can put cheaper engines on my ships. It's funny that the AI will still buy useless engine tech. Tech trading was always one of it's weaknesses, though.
