miniaturization mod? previous issues

Ok im new so while I have been frantically reading the forums I dont know everything that has been asked or tried.
Im having a real issue with the capacity for ships. Other races, and this is backed up by my reading, seem to have higher attack/defense/etc than mine, regardless of how carefully I design. So thats one problem.

Second is with the mods I've already downloaded. I have the ship jewelry mod which words beautifully though I am still trying to get more than one mod working at a time. I have another though where there are higher weapons available, for instance a laser ampliphicator, yes that, which gives me a super laser. Never mind that its not that powerful, it takes up like 160 out of the 170 capacity. Now I wouldnt expect to put a dozen other weapons on top of it but I'd like to at least be able to move the damn thing. This problem carries thoughout several of the mods I've tried.
Any help or advice would be appreciated, for example is there a mod that gets rid of or reduces the capacity requirement, and or the size of components.

If you have trouble keeping pace with the AI in ship designs as it is, changing the sizes of weapons or capacity of hulls is a bad idea--the AI would take advantage of it too, and stay just as far ahead.

If you want to give yourself more space on ships without letting the AI do the same, the best course is to edit your race's My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\RaceName.raceconfig or My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\RaceName.customracexml (depending if this is for GC2 or DA) and give it a high <miniaturization> value.

You can also give yourself a non-trade and non-stealable tech that boots miniaturization too. Thats if you are in DA...in DL you can do the same, but there is a chance the AI might end up with it somehow.

DA has non stealable techs? I was under the impression that all techs, even ones like the spore ship tech, could be stolen...

Also, one way that they may have such high attack and defense values is if they have weapons and defenses picked for their racials. With the Drengin you can start out with +45% to your weapons, I believe. This is the combination of their innate skill, spendable points, and the war party government. So that little ship you built that has 10 attack? Now it would have 14 or 15 (depending on the rounding). And this is without including bonuses you get from maxing out a military resource or the anomalies.

The last game I played (which was actually the final campaign mission) I ended up with well over 150% to my weapons skill.
