AI thinks Chaff is more valuable than Smart Chaff

Hi,

I'm pretty new to GalCiv2, I noticed this today that the Acheans were willing to trade more for Chaff than Smart Chaff. It say I was foolish for giving them the preceeding tech when I put Smart Chaff then Chaff, but if it was just Chaff it was a done deal.

yep, ai still has glitches in this area - it's been tidied up a fair bit from DL to DA, but still around eg planetary bombardment less valuable than planetary invasion. i'm sure there are others...

If you get Planetary Bombardment but not Planetary Invasion, can you build troop transports? The above makes sense if the answer to my question is 'no'.

Nope. Basic Troop Modules specifically require Invasion.

The first techs after the Theories have higher AI Values than the subsequent techs do (15 vs 5 for all other weapon techs). When you offer the AI a tech as well as the one before it, all but the 'best' tech in that line become worth considerably less (if not completely worthless) in its eyes. Since Chaff has a higher AI Value than Smart Chaff, this does indeed make your trade over all worth *less* if you try to offer both at once.

the problem is i can get to/trade for advanced troop modules with the AI still holding out on basic troop modules/planetary invasion.

I think there is a "+10" speed bonus on Warp. Warp 2 is just an upgrade.

The aI will pay more for 'older' techs that have associated bonuses such as + production, + economy, + research, etc. than it will for the next tech up that does not have a bonus.

It seems to also pay a bit more if there is an achievement or new upgrade - for example, it does not pay much for Superior Hulls even though it is fairly deep in the tree, Superior Hulls does not have any associated hardware upgrades - it is more of a 'bridge' tech.

Nope. Basic Troop Modules specifically require Invasion.


You can simply ask for both in the trade and get Planetary Invasion and Planetary Bombardment for the smaller price of Planetary Bombardment.
