Do I Want Dark Avatar?

Hello all! I am a casual GalCiv2 gamer. I love the game and do think that it is one of the best turn-based strategy games ever made. I am currenlty hooked on World of Warcraft though. That friggin' game consumes most of my time. I do like to fire up a good GalCiv2 game once in a while though. Should I make the plunge for Dark Avatar? Can I purchase just Dark Avatar in the stores, or do you have to download it? I am only seeing the Gold Edition in the stores. I'd like some reasons why I should make the purchase or even some giudance/reasons to help me stop playing Wow and play more GalCiv2. Thanks you for your time!

Though I worked on the campaign, I have to tell you the sandbox single player game is much more addictive this time around. You can purchase just the expansion through Stardock https://www.galciv2.com/Purchase.aspx for $29.99

Make a custom race for yourself & make a custom opponent. It gives you an even greater vested interest in how the AI plays against/with you as you see your prodigy compete on it's own.

Jpinard forgot to mention that you can get the 'complete' boxed Gold set retail. It has both DL and DA and I believe a rebate slip for 10.00 if you send them your DL serial, or something to that effect. Not sure what retail pricing is but regardless, it's worth it!

lol, couldn't resist. Anyways, Dark Avatar is really cool and theres a whole bunch more textures and ship jewlery. You can also use Kryo's hull mod to unlock some more stuff and use fake versions of normal ship hulls as jewlery.

Is there really a $10.00 rebate with the Gold Edition in stores? Is it confirmed that you can't just buy the expansion at stores, just online?

If you love GalCiv2 then of course you should get the expansion.

There's no print manual for the expansion (unless you buy the gold version) so you might as well simply download it - or of course, you can always purchase a CD and download it immediately (if you purchase directly from Stardock).

If you are addicted to WoW (been there, over it now) it's unlikely you'll play any other game - but I'd still get DA for when you come to your senses!

I did play WOW and wasn't real addicted, I eventually got turned off WOW due to what it had become.

Yes there is a $10 rebate in the Gold Edition box. And correct: you cannot buy just the expansion in stores. The only way to get just the expansion is to buy it directly from Stardock.

It's well worth the money I bought mine arround December 14th or so; when there was still a 5 dollar discount as a "Buy in advance discount" type of thing; and I managed to catch the Christmas discount of $5 as well. Wonderfull game
