Mods for Galactic Civilizations II: Gold / Dark Avatar

Modders like LogicSequence help make GalCiv II even better

One of the lesser known features of Galactic Civilizations II is just how moddable it is. Players can replace art, add to it, add ships, techs, planets, improvements, UI, you name it.

As a side note: Galactic Civilizations II: Gold Edition should be appearing at retail this week. It integrates the original GalCiv II with the brand-new Dark Avatar expansion pack as a single game.

Have fun!

BTW, that screenshot doesn't do LogicSequence's work justice. The animation with multiple layers of clouds, rotating planet, night lights on the dark side, etc. really give it the full effect.

Here's more shots of that particular mod:

Jupiter

Fry's has had it this whole week. Something like 20 copies. Now I am wondering when I will get my copy that I rodered (I paid for a download + disc).

So far, I have really enjoyed the extra detail that this mod has given - even the planets with unmodified surfaces benefit immensely from the new atmosphere and cloud effects! Truly, the entire galaxy has been made to look its best!

Would be even better if we could get it integrated into the game so those of us who like to play the MV games could use the mod as well

Got the downloaded DA and bolted it onto the DL game

but my old mods don't work? enabled them and picked my folder but game dosen't load. Looks okay in the design a galaxy screen and the pick your race thing but when it starts loading it dies.

any suggestions?

tried remaking one with the DA xml files but hasn't made a difference.

Moiiska, download the game now, then complain about the disk?

Unless you're on dialup, it shouldn't take more then an hour to download.

I believe they were to ship in the past day or two, so they should be showing up next week if so.

Does anyone know if LogicSequences mod substantially affects performance? Any recommended specs for that? I ask because I'd like to use it (it's gorgeous, from the screens) but don't want to break anything.

Considering the sizes of the textures, yes, your performance may suffer noticeably if you have a low end video card or one with little memory. It wouldn't cause any physical damage though. So just give it a try and keep it if you're happy with the performance, or dump it if not.

Mr.Wardell, how does it feel to be world class king of the hill?

And you even have a community... a bit more and you're starting a cult. "Cult of the Dead Frog"

thx again, obviously

Logic - Is there going to be any wierdness if I just use the graphic files (over-write the originals) so I can still use Metaverse?

as an option, yes. i love the mod, but it slows down my games a bit and i don't think i'll always use it.

i've noticed it affecting my performance in two ways primarily. my game takes significantly longer to load, and towards the late game when ships are piling up my FPS seems like its gone down a bit. also i noticed once when one of the layers of clouds didn't load correctly and was pixelated.

oh, my system has:
pentium D 2.8 GHz
1 GB RAM @ (if i remember correctly) 500Mhz
radeon x600, 128mb GDDR2 RAM

oh, i turned my resolution down to 1680x1050 hoping to compensate, and AA is off completely.

i want to upgrade to a radeon X1600, and i'm hoping that'll bring things back to what i'm used to. but since it's a crappy Dell, i have a bad feeling i'd need to upgrade the power and cooling to put a better card in.

Answered my own question. They look fantastic in-game even while playing a non-mod game.

No, that should work, except that you won't have any of the mod's raw terrain maps, or other enhancements made by modding the XML files .

Dystopic, check my post in the mod thread about this issue. Short Answer: It's not a bug, it's just how GC2 draws the cloud textures.

Finally, Finally, Finally,

This is the kind of work that will add a whole new atmosphere to the game.

Those little blobs that seem like simple assets could very well become full functioning Planets.
