Getting the manual before the core download?

Hi there,

After having much fun with the first GalCiv I'm seriously considering getting the second part (I've not decided whether to buy the Gold Edition yet). The problem is, I'll be stuck on a laptop with a non-supported video card (Savage) for a few days, so the game won't run. But will I be able to download and read the manual or other instructive media? I'd like to read more about the game mechanics before I begin playing. So the question is: should I buy the game now, because I'll be able to read the docs, or should I wait until I return to my PC?

If you're planning to get it anyway, you can download the game, manual and all (even if you can't play the game), then just use SDC's archive option to move it to the new computer when you get it, without having to redownload (provided you have a network or portable media that you could move it across with).

Alternately, you could just go pick up GalCiv2:Gold at retail (which is actually cheaper!).

Does the Gold Retail Edition's manual cover both DL and DA, then?

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the laptop does not have a CD burner and I don't have my pendrive with me. I thought it could be possible to download the manual to the laptop and then the core game to my PC, when I'm back home? (...)

(...)which brings me to the second issue: I live in Poland so I can't buy the Gold edition at retail (at least not yet). And $20 for regular GalCiv 2 is less than I'd have to pay with my currency for a boxed version, which would also be localised (and I don't want that because of the patches and online knowledge bases).

I'm in Germany now; I'll check if the English GE of GalCiv2 is for sale here at retail.

Well, unless they've imported it, you won't find it there either--we've not yet settled distribution plans for Europe, unfortunately.

The manual is part of the core game download. Of course you could always redownload the whole game later, if you like. The core download was about 300MB last I checked.
