Spore Ship AI weakness

Spore Ship AI weakness

Playing as Korath i had a lot of fun gasing entire planets with Spore Ships. It's really a lot of fun!
I noticed anyway that AI isn't really aware of the danger of Spore Ships, in other words i often launched these spore ships unescorted and AI didn't do anything to stop my ships, losing planet after planet.I'm not an expert of modding or AI but would be possible for example to make AI buy ships when a Spore Ship is in sight? These ships are really fun but AI don't know how to defend from them.

Hey, since the campaign backstory says that Spore works a lot like mad cow disease, I propose adding an alien race of cows, that are immune to the spore.

Like Entropy suggested, what about adding a lower cost prereq ability for the early game and make the current ability more time consuming to research. How about have the early tech reduce the soldiering ability of the planet and/or reduce the population by 50%. It that isn't useful enough in the early game it could reduce or stop population growth and/or production for a set amount of turns.

I don't quite understand how this SA made it to the game, if you take into account the arguments used against planetary bombardment... even forgetting that little detail, how you gain control over a planet with no presence there, even after obliterating the opponent's presence, is strange.
This idea, conceptually it's a better implementation of the tech, even though those 50% are still genocide. Reducing planetary output at all levels is good for an early game ability, but I'd say the opponent should have to research the early tech to get rid of the effect, instead of working for a # of turns. Forces the opponent to divert resources to research an area he might otherwise not touch at all.
To be honest, this shouldn't even be a SA, but a tech available to all civs. Sounds better than some if not all invasion tactics...

I do like the idea of Spore being an invasion tactic, maybe an evil-only one. However, the deed is done, Spore is here now, and that seems like a major change in my mind.

Not sure about being evil-only (if you had to research it to get rid of the effect, only evil civs could do that). It should, however, make you take a major hit to your alignment, in the evil direction of course. And the diplomatic repercussions should be huge, with war being declared by the target's allies.
Another effect could be to "contaminate" all farms in the planet, effectively negating their effects (and affecting pop). But for this to be effective, I guess planets would have to be more farm-dependent.

In my mind, Spore is just a form of Gas Warfare, that's all. But then again, we've got to re-think Gas Warfare--doesn't that only turn the planet Toxic, too? I mean, Mass Drivers and Core Detonation lowering the PQ, that I understand, but--Gas Warfare? I never use that tactic anyway.
