German Download Version for DA

We are still looking into having DA localized and published in Europe. Until then, there is only the English version, sorry.

it is possible to get a german version. Do you have found a publisher for a german version of DA.

My next question is: When I have the german version of the original game (GV II) and then buy the english version of DA, is then the original game in english too?

Not yet, no.



DA would be entirely in English. I don't believe any of the translated files were changed in GC2 1.5 versus 1.4, so if you already have 1.4 then the game should remain entirely in German.

I purchased a DL in a retail store and downloaded 1.4x and now I got some kind of mixture of languages! I ordered the Gold version and am now anxious for the shipment to arrive.

What do you recommend I should do when it arrives? Uninstal 1.4x first? Just put the CD into the computer and let the game do whatever it will do?

My goal is to have an English only version, so I will know what the forum is talking about. Some items are just not recogizable after they have been translated and there is no German forum I'm aware of.

If you want English-only, uninstall the game, then save and run the English file found here. Confirm that you want to merge it to your registry, then install the entire game via SDC and you should end up with the English version (I believe the European retail discs only contain their localized languages).

Well, someone could always do the job to create an unofficial german translation. It is already the case for the french version as someone has translated the DA files into french. He had already done that for GC2, before the french retail version hit the shelves

Is there an documentation how to do the translation? Im not really into the materia because i've just started with dark avatar today. Some tips where someone who wants to translate it should start would be nice.

hmm... I did the german translation of GC2 DL for paradox, if I remember correct, since patch version 1.2 or so.

But I don't have DA at the moment. So my tips for you are based on the DL version of GC2.

In the german localized version of DL, there was a folder named DATA with two subfolders
English and German ( BTW if you change the language switch in your windows registry from 'German' into 'English' you can play easely the game in english).

So I guess first you have to create for DA also a subfolder called GERMAN in the DATA folder there.
This GERMAN folder must contain all (this is very important for function) files of the ENGLISH folder.
Translating XML files use a non RichTextEditor, there are several freeware tools
i.e. Edit Pad Lite.

In DL, I had to translate all the xml files, also the three str files (English.str, Screens.str, ToolTips.str).

It may be, that you have to change after all your translation work the registry key for
DA into German. Don't know. Maybe Kryo can find out this for you.
As I said, I don't own DA at the moment, my old car is eating all my money for it's repairing.

Hi i've done the unofficial french translation (CG2 and DA) and i've help Paradox for french 1.4 version.
There is no documentation for "how to do the translation".
Fortunately in darkavatar the xml files and str are amlost the same than CG2 files.
For translate Darkavatar:
- Save in a new folder all files and folders in data\german of your CG2 german game, do the same thing for DarkAvatar\Data\english files and folders.
- Then compare CG2 german files and DarkAvatar english files, add the new lines in german files ,translate them and replace the new german translated files in in DarkAvatar\Data\english folder of Darkavatar game(use ultraedit32 or total commander to compare the files and note pad to edit them), don't forget to make a copy of jour originals files.
- For the specifics DarkAvatar files a flag exist (TRANSLATE)for what you can translate.
- Now you can play in german

Ps: Don't translate the name of the faction, for exemple "Terran alliance or Drendin empire", because game bug (i don't know why)

Any News on a german version of Dark Avatar?

Its hard to read new patch notes and everything that makes the addon even better and still have no chance to play it if i prefer to play it in my motherlanguage.


So it would be nice to hear if there's still a chance for a localized version or you say that it's the money not worth and you wont translate it.

Well, the problem is that Stardock hasn't translated GC2:DL. It was the distributor of GC2 in Europe, Paradox, who was responsible to make the localization. And there no deal has been made yet for distributing DA in Europe.

 

There've been some setbacks with our European distribution plans for GC2 Gold, so unfortunately at this point we can't offer any estimates at all about when or if it'll still happen.
