Congrats Stardock!

Looking forward to playing Dark Avatar! (when's the last time I've seen a game released EARLY?)

Awsome, just purchased it and I can wait to play it. One thing though: I really dislike having to install SDCentral just to download the expansion. I don't use any other Stardock products so it's pointless for me to keep it instaled. The only place I was informed that I needed to install SDC was in the reciept after I bought it.

Cheers

Greetings,

I've been following the news nearly every day to see what is happening in the world of GC and am very excited that Dark Avatar has been released and I really want to get it.

The thing is I don't have a credit card and don't use Paypal. I heard that it is only available in retailers in the Gold Edition. Why isn't Dark Avatar being released as an expansion pack in stores?

Its no. 1 on my to get list at the moment, but don't want to have to pay the extra to get Galciv 2 when I already paid for it.

Is there another way??

Thanks

It's not easy for a small company to get good shelf space, and even harder (and costlier) to get retailers to carry two products in the same group at once. So instead of putting DA only out there and leaving those who don't already have GC2 with no way in, the Gold version is the solution so everyone can get DA, new and old players alike.

Note that if you have the retail version of GC2 already, you will be able to use a mail in $10 rebate in GC2 Gold so it only costs as much as DA alone would in the end.

Is the $10 Mail-in Rebate (Included with the Boxed GC2 Gold?) available to International Customers as I live in Australia?

And do you know of a date for stock to reach Australia?

As the game is being published by Auran in Australia/NZ, unforunately I don't know when their shelf date is or if they will have the rebate in the box.

If you order it direct from us, it will have the rebate.

As i do have the game, but im not going to pay 40 buck to get it again for the expansion and the original version, even so i dont use credit cards. sure, the game is cool and the developers do deserve the money for a nice job. But i just want the expansion.

And im thinking is a lame excuse for store to say lack of shelf space and just to make companies pay more money due to lack of space, as like the stores i allways go, as im betting theres more than 500 used traded in from each console games lying around for months and they dont even have space for PC games.

Well, i guess i have to wait for the prices to drop to get a gold edition for just the expansion.

Thanks for the answer.

That's a choice the store makes. We can't force them to make more room for PC Games.

As I said, there's a $10 rebate for owners of the orignal GC2. So it would only be approximately $30 after rebate, and that's if they charge MSRP (many stores charge below MSRP at their own discretion).

I'd gladly pay $40 for what you guys put into this X-pack! Of course, I'm going to get my rebate, put the $10 in a high-yield CD account, and buy a future Stardock game with it. My $10 should mature to $40 in the year 2023.

I can't wait to buy Dark Avatar... just a quick question though. Does the Gold (both GAlciv2 and Dark avatar) have the most recent updates a.k.a does the original have all of the up-to-date patches?

Yes, GC2:Gold includes GC2 1.5 (though there has been a very minor update since it shipped, that won't change anything for most users).

After a frustrating experience trying to download this game, I've been turned away from that avenue completely. I'll head head down to the store and pay extra for the GE just to do things simply and easily.

Looking forward to it, but the download process was discouraging.

I'm planning on doing a direct dl from stardock, but could someone just let me know how big the dl is? My connection, although its high-speed, isn't always the most reliable.
Thanks in advance.

Dark Avatar alone is less than 300MB.

Actually, I just got the GE at Gamestop for $39.99+tax. I also am about to send in for my $10 rebate...so this seems much cheaper than the online purchase...and I get a printed manual, a hotkey chart, and the physical disks.

I had a bit of trouble getting the dl from sdc as well...turns out it was my own mistake. For anyone else who's purchased the game but still had it show up in sdc as "purchase" rather than "install", you have to click on "tools" (in the top left corner) and then click on "register products...". Fill in the info, along with the serial number from your email, and viola, you're ready to dl. Although I have to say that little step should have been made a bit clearer in the email purchase receipt.
Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to jumping right in!
