Last year, we had a thread in which people showed off some of the great ship designs they created with Galactic Civilizations II.

With the expansion pack adding so many new components and so much free form support, we'd love to see the cool things players create.

The cool thing in the expansion pack is now you can save your creations as templates and then assign the computer players to make use of those ships in various roles. Combined with the capability of creating your own custom opponents, now you can create your own sci-fi universe within GalCiv without modding.

i really like the mini- attack ships docked to the shuttle bays: very nice touch. i did something similar in one of my own designs, but the 1.6 graphics engine didn't like the design (too many pieces) and it doesn't work anymore... that's why i haven't posted my city-ship design on the library

The max piece level can be a bit of a pain when you design something of that magnitude as you end up sacrificing something to get another thing to work. That said without it the game would slow to a crawl!

I think kenweb did a Korath troops ship where he had tanks and mechs lined up on deck

he is king of knocking out ship set

shame he's off getting more edumicated

Sorry about the pictures quality, I kinda fumbled the screenshots.

MEDUSA class Freighter
This ship was developped to answer a simple need: to establish trade routes to distant worlds FAST. Standard freighters are sluggish, taking months, sometimes even a year, to travel to the most lucrative and distant worlds. The MEDUSA intend to at least divide that time by two.
To accomplish this, a special inertia dampener field is generated around the cargo, allowing higher acceleration without risking freight damage. Coupled with powerfull engines, it allow the MEDUSA a speed more than two times higher than the basic freigther is used to.
The inertia dampener field is generated by the petal-like wings surrounding the freight. The wings can be rised to allow easy access to the freight by one of the two crane (on top and bottom).

Is that why some of my designs now look all funky. That huge container ship of mine doesn't look right anymore. And I know that it had ALOT of pieces

i haven't been able to figure out if it's jewelry per ship, polys per ship, polys per game-in-progress, if it's a hard-set limit or based on available memory, if it's by design, etc. i'm sure it's not jewelry specifically, though, but any 3D ship components. i first noticed the problem while playing a test mod to see how messing with miniaturization might change the game dynamics. i hit the limit after putting about 50 basic mass drivers on a large hull with relatively little jewelry.

yes, and further the 'funk' grows exponentially worse as you add more pieces. what's bad about that IMO is that sometimes when there's only minor graphical funk, i don't notice it until i've built 250 of the ship and can't afford to upgrade them to something that looks good.

yup it will help there. Pity as loads of jewelry do make for a pretty ship
