Show off your ship designs 2007!

Ship designs from around the world!

Last year, we had a thread in which people showed off some of the great ship designs they created with Galactic Civilizations II.

With the expansion pack adding so many new components and so much free form support, we'd love to see the cool things players create.

The cool thing in the expansion pack is now you can save your creations as templates and then assign the computer players to make use of those ships in various roles. Combined with the capability of creating your own custom opponents, now you can create your own sci-fi universe within GalCiv without modding.

Very nice job Dok! Great lines and curves, everything! When are you planning to upload it to the library?

Oh, uh... as soon as I figure out how to do all that stuff. I'm still slowly learning about the custom ships community and tinkering with the shipyard. I've made a number of intricate ship designs at this point (that one's probably the best so far), and I'm really surprised with how well they turned out. I'm not exactly a professional designer.

So yeah, I have to read up on the other mods I don't have, figure out how to upload and download custom ships (including custom renders and parts), that sort of thing.

Thanks for the compliment! I posted this ship on another forum I frequent, and everyone seemed yo like it there, too.

Oh, what the heck? I'll post some more of my ship designs.

I'd use Imageshack, but I'm so used to Photobucket at this point that it's just a lot easier (plus, I already have all my ship designs stored there).

I call this design the "Vr'tra Battlecruiser". It's a really big ship designed to shoot really big guns. I really like the top-down and three-quarters perspectives, and the front and side views are okay, but they could be better.

I call this one the "Crayfish Heavy Fighter". It's a Small hull designed to be used as a fighter; it's supposed to resemble an arthropod or crustacean. The large blue antennae on the front sides aren't perfect but I think they add more than they take away.

Here's one more design... I really like this one, at least from the three-quarters perspective, but of course it's very flat. It's another Huge hull. It's too shiny on top and you can hardly see it from the front or side, and it's a very simple design (just a few cleverly arranged pieces), but eh. I haven't named this one at all.

@CapitalShip:

Thanks for the compliment. At first i needed alot of time to create even one good looking ship - hours ... Later the needed time became less and less - for the huge hulls i needed around 2 hours in the end.

@Frenchmaniac:

Don't be afraid by the mass of jewelry in the ship editor. Just play around with it when you have time and are in the mood for it. It will become easy once you are beginning to understand how it works.

Janes' Fighting Starships: The Federation of Planets.
The Philosopher Class starship is the earliest of Starfleet's capital ships. The USS Socrates is shown here.

The Miranda Class frigate replaces the Philosopher, in that she's faster and more heavily armed. This class will continue to see service throughout the Drengin and Klingon wars of the 23rd century.
This is the rear view of the USS Reliant.

The most recognizable of Starfleets vessels is the Constitution Class heavy cruiser (USS Enterprise shown here). She boasts heavy beam weaponry, and later upgrades will include torpedo armament as well. This is the most successful ship design in the Starfleet order of battle.

The Aurora Class interceptor cruiser was built with speed in mind. About equal in size to the Constitution Class cruisers, the Auroras were twice as fast. This speed came at a price, as they were grossly underpowered for their size, and did not fare well in the early stages of the Drengin onslaught. They were mothballed, only to be returned to service to fight pirates.

The Agamemnon Class Battleships were the first ships dedicated to warfighting. Eschewing scientific, explorative and diplomatic equipment and personnel, this heavy warship was packed with beam weaponry and heavy armor. She could go toe to toe with the heaviest vessels of either the Drengin or Klingon fleets.

The Monarch Class Dreadnought is the most powerful vessel constructed at Utopia Planitia. The expense of construction of such a ship limited the quantities that Starfleet could field in times of war; The Monarchs dominate the battlespace in any engagement, and to date, none have been lost.

The Impervious Class dreadnought is a larger, but less powerful vessel the the Monarch. An experimental design with heavy armor and defensive capabilities, she lacked the equivalent in offensive capacity. This was thought to counter the Klingon's "super Warrior" first strike ability. These Dreadnoughts did not perform as well as the Monarchs, and were scrapped early in the production run.

The Spectre class special ops cruiser bears little resemblance to other Starfleet designs. Created to travel deeps into enemy space to interrupt communications, mining, and trade, the Spectres had high speed, experimental hyperwarp 3 engines with a low-intensity warp signature (note the green plasma color). Although Starfleet did not employ cloaking technology, the ships angular nature and special coating over the engine nacelles provided stealth. This vessel was only built at the Hyperion shipyards, affording her even greater speed than any other Starhip.
