alliances

How do you break an alliance? Sometimes you've got one civ making life difficult. But that civ is aligned with 2 others so if you attach them then the other 2 will attach you. Going up against 3 civs at once is not a good idea. Maintenance of war ships is high enough for one war much less 3. Then there is the price of producing them in the first place. So if I align with the same 2 civs as the other guy then when I start a war with them our alignments cancel each other out, usually. After it's over I sometimes want to break the alliance. I don't generally like them. All they do is get you into a lot of wars that you didn't start. Although aligning with a civ with several other alignments can be good because if you need the assistance of your aligned civ then the others aligned with them will help too. Sometimes I just need to break an alliance and I don't know how.

On the diplomacy screen, where it lists all the empires you have had contact with, if you click on a empire, below the portrait of the leader will be a box that says "break alliance". Click this box, and your all set.

Note: I havn't tried this with DA yet, so I don't know if the screen has changed.

Can't remember, but I think it's in the trade window in DA.

First you ally with one of their ally's, then get the annoying race to declare war on you.

anytime you want somone to declare war, just upgrade your ships to have defences only and no weapons. Put enough defences to create a bit of a balance so that upgrading costs are minimul between unarmed and armed status.
