I need a Game!!!!!!!

Ok with Stardock holding us in suspense as to when PREorders can start getting DA. My attention span is limited and i've already bored myself of the DA Beta.

What is a good newer game thats similar to GC that can bide my time and attention until Stardock holds good on the promise that preorders get the game 1st and very very soon...

Sorry if i sound a little harsh. Just not happy that a preorder with a promise to get the game much sooner works out to be a a couple days of anyone else....

Its an awesome game, very few games actually keep my interest for more than a few months. So kudos to Stardock for the game...

Well, GC2 is in a class by itself, so theres no easy substitute. You could check out Medieval 2 Total war or Europa Universalis 3, both great and worth picking up on their own merits in any event, DA or no.

If youre set on the sci fi 4x turn based, theres Sword of the Stars and Space Empires 5, if you cant wait another 2 weeks. Not as good as GC2 (but not completely *terrible*), but maybe serve as a tide-me-over.

For something not really exactly like GC2, but quirky and absorbing and wont require much investment, you could check out Space Rangers 2 on the Total Gaming Network.

If you have a link to where they promised that preorders would come earlier, then please post it, becasue you are the first and only person I have ever heard say sucha thing.

To tide you over, you could bust out a copy of MOO2 (if you have one). Otherwise teh other games mentioned might work. I heard SEV was really ggod, but that the AI is horrificly bad (making treaties with each other agreeign to cease research, effectivly ending any further threat tehy might pose). As for SOTS, I've heard that it's primary focus is on massive fleet combat, and that colonies really only exist for the purpose of building more ships. Good luck!

per Froggie:

Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar will be released on February 14th. It is an on-line only release (i.e. you can only get it on its own here -- CD or digital download). Users who pre-order it will be able to start getting it early (how early we can't say yet).

As for SotS and SE5, I was just trying to be diplomatic so as not to start any flaming by fans of the games. Yeah, theyre nowhere near the class of GC2 or any great sci fi 4x games of the past, but he did say "newer games like GC2", and those were all I could think of recently as strictly sci fi.

Youd be much better off picking up M2TW or EU3.

Ok, good to see the source material. I'm guessing what he was talking about there is the same system that they used for distribution of DL, where we got to start downloading it about a week or so in advance, since he said "start getting it" and not "will get it".

No. He went on to clarify it would not just be "pre loading". Youll get to play the actual game at some point prior to the 14th release, but whether thats an hour early or a week early is totally unknown.

I stand corrected. He did mention something about it yesterday on this thread, maybe that helps.
