Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar HAS GONE GOLD!

Release Day: February 14!

https://www.galciv2.com/Purchase.aspx

We are pleased to announce that Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar has gone gold!

It's been a long journey but we think players will be pleased with the results.  The expansion pack will be released on February 14th. You can pre-order it here either as a download or have a CD sent to you (and download it while you're waiting).

We'd like to thank all the people who helped beta test the game. You helped us find bugs, balance the game, add new features, and just make the entire project worthwhile for us. Thank you so much!

If you have any questions, ask them here and we'll do our best to answer.

Dark Avatar: the perfect Valentine's Day gift.

But, guys, just to be on the safe side, you might want to get your girlfriend some nice jewelry too.

Awesomeness! Great work guys!

For those who preordered for a CD as well, will they be mailed to us prior to the 14th, as you get the CDs? Or will you be waiting until the official release date to handle all that jazz?

So, we can download it now?

Right?

Please, please, please say 'yes'!

(or actually, you can wait until I get home from work to announce it, that's OK too)

Yes.. please let people who preordered to download it through update... and of course open Metaverse to accept DA scores!

Brad,

Will you in the future be upgrading some of the graphics in GalCiv2 Dl & DA to take advantage of the DirectX10 features in Vista? I was reading info on Vista at the different game sites and CNet and was curious if you had any plans or if you are happy with where you are with GalCiv2 and include any new graphic features in GalCiv3 or some other incarnation?

Thanks in Advance

Really couldn't say at this point. It depends on whether DirectX 10 will let us do things that arne't feasible in DirectX 9 that impact the game. So far, I am not aware of any.

CariElf: Wait, you mean that the card I got at the gas station scotch-taped to the jewel case isn't enough? Wow... I mean... wow. This changes my entire outlook on dating and courtship.

Stardock; not just making better games, making better gamers.

Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar will be released on February 14th. It is an on-line only release (i.e. you can only get it on its own here -- CD or digital download). Users who pre-order it will be able to start getting it early (how early we can't say yet).

This was part of an earlier anouncement on 1-17.....So when do we preorder folks get it????

Congratulations on your success. Going gold before the official release must be a real feather in your cap. Thank you for all of the hard work you have put into this excellent game. It's like Christmas all over again!

makes my recent fumbles at a beta report seem even sillier

Does anyone have any idea how big the download will be?

I'm looking forward to play the full thing.

That is an important question for me as well, it will determine where I download from mostly. Home or school:D

Gotta go to class...

LONG LIVE THE SNATHI!

Is this simultaneous with the GC2:Gold retail release?

I stopped in to a local retail store today and they told me they have 3 copies of GC2:Gold already on the store's next shipment and due to arrive within 5-7 days.

I don't know whether the store is just misinformed or if it's one of those things where the retail channel gets it a couple days earlier in order to keep them happy.

Actually, every game goes gold before thier release. Going gold means that the code has been finalized (version 1.0). So, while work will continue to be done for patches and such, the actually version that will be on the retail cd's is finished and sent for mass production.

Great news. The question I think all us beta testers want to know is when can we download the gold version?

Great! I can't wait to play it.

I'm ready to start up a new game after Sega/SIgames cancelled the NHL EHM series, that game and GC2 are my two favorite games.

Long Live the GC series.

Man, my enthusiasm for this release is high. I simply cannot wait.
I'll admit a bit of disappointment that its not available for download right now. I preordered under the assumption that I'd get it at the zero-hour (at the time, there was no talk of gold edition boxed copies as far as I can recall) and now that the thought has been planted that they're holding back until the box hits the shelves.. well, its just a thought at this point. I hope Brad Wardell and co. can give us more information soon.

Actually the plan is to start doing pre-orders a bit early in the order in which we received them. It reweards the people who pre-order and is easier on the bandwidth.

So those who pre-ordered the moment they found out Dark Avatar was in the works get them first and so on down the line? Heh, nice call in a way, it is pretty easy on the bandwidth. Of course, the folks who ordered THAT early also got into the beta, so for them it'd be more of an upgrade than a full download.

I assume those just upgrading would strain the bandwidth less than those downloading full up? Or is the bandwidth usage roughly equal for both of them?
