So how is the serial code thing gonna work with the retail version of DA??

I just wanted to know, because I have DreadLords already and understand you have to buy the gold edition to get DA. Which is fine, I was just curious as to how the serial codes will work. Will I have to make a new stardock account? Will DL and DA be playable right away in the retail version (no update required?)? Or will I have to update the Gold edition Dreadlords to play Dark avatar? Thanks in advance, and anything else worth noting pertaining to this subject would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am curious what makes you think you'll have to buy a GOLD edition? I looked at the sites purchase area and there is no mention of a Gold edition. am I missing something here...?

I pre ordered the DA CD to be shipped to me for the $30 plus shipping and still use my original account numbers for collectors edition that I bought about a year ago. There was an email with a new number for the DA expansion mailed to me soon as I ordered and payed. I assume it will just work with the games installation.

Wait a minute, even though I already own GC II, I have to buy another copy that is labeled Gold and only then can I purchase and play the expansion?

The Gold version only will available at retail, with a $10 mail-in-rebate for owners of the original retail GC2. If you want DA only, you can get that direct by digital purchase. If you're eligible for the rebate, then it comes down to just a matter of preference, as the cost will be about the same either way.

The reason the Gold version will be at retail as opposed to GC2 and DA separately side-by-side is due to the inherent challenges of marketing and getting shelf-space in stores (look back in Frogboy's journals for details on that). So it's simpler and easier to just have a combined package, with a rebate for those who already own the original game.

You would simply register it the same way as you registered before. In SDC, or I imagine the register page on the site here will be updated to do it as well.
