Dark Avatar Beta 2b required.


INSTALL
1 Unzip the mod
2 Copy the mod folder to ..GalCiv2\DarkAvatar\Mods
3 Start GalCiv2
4 Choose the mod folder from the options dialog
5 Restart GalCiv2
6 Click the 'clear' button after selecting your race

It is recommended that you delete your ..My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar folder.

Please, at least tell people to make a backup copy first. Otherwise, they will loose any custom ships designs and other game info, like custom races and custom race images that are stored here.

That being said, I look forward to trying this version. I truely enjoyed the last version even if there was a minor issue with the Technomages being able to trade the other races ship hulls for almost any other tech...

Huh? How will they be able to compete if they cant build colony ships?

With the advent of DA ship styles I dropped the hull techs for this version. The only techs that are in 0.5 are the engine and weapons branches.

How will they be able to compete if they cant build colony ships?

Hopefully the large planets and large racial bonuses they start with will help, any feedback on how this is going would be great!

I found many ships to be simply invisible. even some fleets, which made my game crash when i tried to fight them in the battle viewer.
Am i doing something wrong?

I strongly doubt that this will be enough on huge maps with a houndred inhabitable planets but I will let you know for sure once I get DA.

I know that in 0.4 the Vorlons and Shadows were a joke since other races had like 10 or so colonies each while they were stuck with their one.

One solution would be to give them vastly superior technology and put them on aggressive stance fromt the start like the Dreadlords, if that is even possible. But personally I prefer them being able to colonise just like the other races but with racial advantages, specially in tech. That would better simulate how they were in the series once you are past turn 100 or so.

Also is the weapon tree fixed for 0.5? In 0.4 the beam weapon tree wasnt available at the start but rather you had to research half of the mass driver tech tree to get access to it. Or maybe thats how it supposed to be?

I downloaded the flash player and it still says i need the latest version. I got the latest version what should I do.

I don't know if you can do this but, perhaps have Shadows/Vorlons/first ones start with 3 powerful planets. Maybe one planet for tiny..and 4 for huge. They are an old race they should live on more than one planet.


Or have them start with colony ships...but can't build anymore of them.

Or some kind of trigger event that last for the first two years...like once shadows are "conquered" it restores their homeworld back with technolgy that have been researched with a message saying: The foolish humans thought they have conquered the shadows, but in fact they have awaken them from their slumber and there are 5 powerful warships protecting homeworld.

With Dark Avator set these three races on aggressive so that they are pushed to build transports to conquer.

The Vorlons and Shadows start with two planets in this version - a 40 and a 30. They seem to do ok in games I've played so far and really utilize those planets. The 100% bonuses in key areas probably help too.

There is an alternate download link now if you're still having problems Whipsnapper (I won't be using Axifile again). It is in the top post and here.

@Bodyless: are you using the GalCiv2 Dark Avatar beta? Also, and this should probably be in the readme, but only the B5 styles will work correctly. That is, don't use the default GalCiv2 styles.

Yes i use Da beta 2b. And i only use the hulls from the mod. but i dont know if the ai is somehow using it.

It could be that you have custom opponents in the game who are using old hull styles?

If it isn't that then could you please send your debug.err to me via email.

I got it downloaded from the alternate download site last night been playing some today. Minor races are good especially the third space invaders. I set it to tough but quickly ran out of funds while londo and his centauri hordes was cleaning my galaxy up.

HI,
Right off the bat i want to say this is an amazing mod. Cool models, engrossing game play and it just FEELS like B5.
Anyways, a glitch ive found:
Technomage ships=no textures. At least the frigate types and up.
The entire technomage race i found was far too powerful.

Other than that i haven't really experimented with any of the races other than the EA and can't really give you a full bug report yet.
Im sure you've probably fixed that bug in the .50 version but to be on the safe side...

On a side note..
I can't find that file with all the movies and stuff ANYWHERE to download. All the links seem to be broken. Do you have copies of them or is there any way to obtain these? It would definitely be awesome if i could get a hold of it.

Just noticed the full version of DA is up! I am downloading it at the moment... I assume the majority of 0.5 should work in DA full but hopefully I will have time on friday or saturday to polish 0.5 and update it for DA full.

Oh and Spaxspore is still alive so there will be another media pack uploaded soon.

Still adds immensely to the game of course.

Well, if you don't have a ship built and you quit you can never build it when you load up, but that's the only major error other then the title screen showing part of the DL screen over the mod screen.

Trying a custom race, no ability to build a colony ship. Tried trading with earth who does have colony ships, no option to trade hulls. Any idea how to make the custom race have colony ships?
