LogonStudio Vista Arrives!

LogonStudio Vista Arrives!

Now available on Stardock Central for Object Desktop users!

Stardock LogonStudio for Windows Vista has gone into beta for users of Object Desktop.  LogonStudio is a program that enables users to replace the Windows Vista logon screen with one of their own creation or use one made by others.  The new .logonvista format has been designed to be extensible so that as Stardock adds more features to the format, existing logons will continue to work.

We have created a new gallery on WinCustomize.com to support these new logons. Taking screenshots is a bit of a challenge since print-screen doesn't work when you're at the logon prompt in Windows Vista but Stardock plans to add support for making screenshot previews in an upcoming build.

If you don't have Object Desktop, now's a good time to get it. Object Desktop is Stardock's premiere suite of desktop enhancement utilities that includes WindowBlinds, IconPackager, DesktopX, ObjectBar, RightClick, SkinStudio, and many other programs that can completely transform the Windows desktop to your own design.  LogonStudio Vista is the first of the Windows Vista specific programs released (users of Windows XP have LogonStudio XP already).

I would have liked to have gotten this, but as I have Vista now (so nothing else is useful), am not a current user, and don't have a CC (living out of the country for now), I suppose I will have to wait a bit.

Regardless, keep up the good work.

Note that LogonStudio Vista is not designed to work with pre-release versions of Windows Vista. Using Vista RC1 has been the cause behind both "it doesn't work" errors that I know of.

There is no .logonvista file sitting on disk waiting to be used. To create one, click the logon you want to export and then click the link to the left saying "Export".

Future versions will make this a drag and drop operation - you will just drag the logon to where you want it to go (the desktop or Windows Explorer window).

There isn't one...it's available on SDC for ODNT subscribers.

With logonstudio Vista, are you able to customize buttons, move account banner etc? If all you can do is change the wallpaper, what's the point? Especially if you have to pay for it! I'm looking to convert my XP logons to vista and most of them won't work with the account banner in the middle.

Not yet, no. The point is basically that with the default skin, changing the wallpaper is enough for a lot of people. There is certainly a lot more that we would like to do and which is possible given time, but we have limited developer resources, and would rather have a solid product out there that than a flaky one that does more.

Not for me! I like to change everything! Anyway it's a moot point since I don't have Vista yet.... I was just curious!

So do I. And we really would love to do more, and so we most likely will . . . in time.

I just discovered when booted in Vista, that when I downloaded some LogonXP files (Light Escapes & Not of this Earth) to use in XP on my dual boot machine, LogonStudio Vista opened and I was able to apply them. Don't know if this is normal or even if LogonStudio Vista is supposed to import LogonStudio XP files at this time, but it seems that it is doing so/able to.

Using LogonStudio Vista 1.00.002. in Vista Ultimate.

It is meant to, yes. It cannot do everything but it will try to take the background.

is logon vista ever going to be free like how logon xp is?
As far as I know, yes. I don't know when that will be, though - not my decision.

I looooove what I see, but I cannot pay $50 bucks for this. Will this go free after the beta, like the XP version?

I would like to know. Thanks (looks around for fist swinging in general direction of face).

Not a swing in the general direction but the $50 is for many more programs included in ObjectDesktop of which LogonStudio Vista is only one of them - https://www.stardock.com/products/odnt/features.asp

There's a new public release of Logon Studio Vista here: Link

Please change the 'purchase' link so that it doesn't automatically take you to buying a $50 product...

I almost gave up on this app until I searched for the free version. I really wasn't going to pay $50 to put a wallpaper image on my login screen. advertising something, then bundling it as a high priced package is .. to say the least.. annoying.. I don't mind paying 'something' just the sticker-shock overcame me

This post was originally made to announce that LogonStudio Vista was only available to subscribers of Object Desktop, that is why it is linked here.

Now that LogonStudio is public, it can easily be downloaded from it's product page.
