Our Gaming Rigs

Since I've been 'dabbling' into my computer and the wonderful technology behind/within it I have learned many interesting things. I have seen that a few of you have added your system info into a post or two, showing add ons and upgrades that have been performed. Now this isn't a game topic per se, but I am curious about your systems. Therefore I have started this thread for you all to come and post your system specs (preferably focusing on upgrades that you have made, but also commenting on your rig's performance). This could also serve as a do it yourself guide for those wishing to learn a little more about their system or computers in general. Please feel free to contribute, but also, don't give BAD advice. I would hate to hear that someone attempted to do something that they learned in here only to fry their motherboard.
I guess it would've helped if I posted mine so here goes...
HP Pavilion a1410n Media Center Edition
AMD 64 +3800 2.5 ghz
1GB RAM
evga GeForce 7600GT, pci-e
OCZ Gamextreme 700 watt PSU
The rest is all pretty much standard HP stuff...
Seagate 200GB HD
Phillips Lightscribe DVD
13 in one card reader... you get the point.
More or less looking for the upgrades that you guys have done/are going to do.

Not much.

Athlon64 3200+ / 2.0Ghz
Gigabyte nForce3/939 mobo
1GB PC3200 Corsair RAM, Dual Channel
Radeon x850 Pro 256MB
FSP 400w PSU w/ 120mm fan
Maxtor 80GB ATA133
Maxtor 60GB ATA133
LITEON DVD/CDRW
This chassis.
BenQ 19" 2ms LCD
And a drawer that fits in one of the 5.25" bays.

And also my laptop (HP pavilion zv5240):

Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
512MB PC2700 RAM
Radeon Mobility 9000
4200rpm 60GB HDD
40x DVD/CDRW
15.4" wide LCD (1280x800)

The laptop is usually what goes to my buddy's lan parties (Starcraft and C&C Generals mostly), since he's got small kids and they love pushing big, shiny buttons.

Not much.

But you probably tweaked it to make it as efficient as possible, right? Honestly, I kind of figured you to have like, two 500GB drives with a 1000 watt psu, the 8800 nvidia card... wow, you weren't fibbing were you?
Just teasing Kryo, your system probably still trumps mine, even with less hardware specs, and at least you have a laptop (something I can only dream about). But you know I have to ask... do you have a dream set up that you are working towards?

Or how about you Brad? What rig are you running on?

To some degree. I'm no mumble, though. I seriously doubt it's enough gain to compensate for 500Mhz and a generation newer video card, unless your box is really loaded down with the HP preload software still.

do you have a dream set up that you are working towards?

Someday I hope to get a setup where I don't have to cut corners to save cost. Someday...

Hi ALL,

I figure, I'll join in on this thread. I prefer buying all the components
myself and building the system. I've just upgraded a few months ago.

SYSTEM Specs

Mid-Tower case with a Ultra 600w PSU Sli ready

Windows XP w/Sp2
AMD64-X2 4200+ CPU(939)
Asus M2N-Sli MB
Ultra 4GB DDR 400
Liteon DVD drive
Liteon DVD-+RW drive
3.5" floppy drive
BFG 8800 GTS Nvidia Nforce Pci-e
2 WD 200GB sata drives
USB 2 pci adapt card

I prefer Nvidia over ATI, because ATI still needs to due better on driver
support for linux. Their WinXP drivers are getting better all the time.
I have a ATI X1600, I'm waiting for the new RD600 to get released in March,
so I can update again.

Due I need to upgrade, not really. I like new stuff and looking forward
to building a AMD 4x4 system. As soon as I can save the $$$ and have 2 new power
lines run to my office to power it ...

I have a similiar policy myself.

Anyhow, the computer I'm currently using has the following specs:
-Athlon 64 3000+
-1 Gb of memory
-Motherboard KV8-MAX3
-Radeon 9800 pro video card
-200 Gb sata I HDD
-CD/DVD RW drive
-A floppy drive (why not)

It was latter upgraded with a second hard drive 400 GB, but that broke down. The store I got it from had a policy of, if they can't replace a part with another part of the same type, that they will instead give me something better. 1 week later, I installed a 750 GB HDD where the old one used to be.

Another upgrade I got for it is a capture card that allows me to watch and record tv on my computer, which is convient considering I have a 750 Gb HDD to store them on.

P.S. This is also the first computer I built, so I'm probally not going to replace it anytime soon.

M/B is AT7 MAX2 (ABIT)
4 1/2 Fans 1 fan is a tornado fan 100 cfm or what ever the three letter are

over kill heatsink and fan for cpu

heatsink and fan on video card heatsink on one of the chips on M/B heatsink and fan

on onther chip

two of the fans have neon blue lights so does the video card and the case has a 10 or

12' Neon blue light thus giving us the name for the puter as ABIT BLUE

Two USB ports up front and % in the Back which 4 are used in the back

mouse,keyboard,printer and scanner

19" flat screen monitor CRT guess that it this goes with post # 1

Well i will say that my PC (it's not really a "PC" persay, but a Workstation) isn't just a gaming rig, it's my Workstation. It's what i use for all my DCC, 3D modeling, and graphics work (professionaly). So i built it with that in mind, and then modified it slightly to be a hybrid workstation/gaming rig. So as just a gaming rig, it's overkill, but for my work purposes, it's very adequate and serves me well .

Adjust the 'Tactical View Zoom Level' slider in the game's options. The default is 25.
