Invaded Altarian homeworld without losing a transport

I'm not sure if people know about this little 'trick,' I was rather surprised to find it, personally, but I'm fairly new to the game. I've lurked around the forums quite a bit, learning what I can, just thought I'd throw this tidbit out there. Anyway, I invaded teh Altarian main planet (Altaris, I believe) with 2 2000 troop transports and Information warfare. With a luckly 'roll' and their approval of 44%, I did very well. In fact, I finished the battle with just over 4000 troops, which means that I kept Both transports and took the planet. I don't really think this would be a useful tactic, as the odds of fighting a planet with such a low approval seems low, at least in my experience. Thought it was neat though!

I've found that even when low moral results in conquering a planet with more troops than you invaded with, I've still lost a transport eahc and every time. I've found that as an empire starts to fall, morale crumbles especially if planets fall into your radius on influence. Another way to beat down enemy morale is to destroy Morale resource bases if the enemy empire has any.

Try this a few more times, in may have been a glitch or even that you miscounted your number of transports. See what happens.

I think the AI should really put more effort in defending its homeworld. It should be really disastrous to lose ones homeplanet, like a huge drop in approval or something.

If you want it to be really bloodless, use Cultural Insurrection

I've seen it flip homeworlds, although I wonder if they should be immune, given you can't flip Minor race worlds.

Minor races may as well not be in the game save for being culturally immune.
I guess from a realistic point of view, only unhappy worlds should ever deffect. I mean, who cares how much influence a foreign power has, if people are content, they simply do not have the motivation to revolt.

I have never seen an invading transport survive, even when I come out with more troops than I started with (I usually blitz the troop techs when I see a war coming).

I really think that conquering your enemies homeworld should have more effect on their leadership. Today I started a war against the Altarians and took Wisp, Altaria and kept steam-rolling my way into their territory following the line of homeworlds. It got pretty funny as it felt like I was playing dominoes, they would always choose the world right next door as their new capital.

i wonder if it chooses the next homeworld based on its overall rank or by order of colonization

It definitely wasn't rank, it chose a class 5 world deep in my territory once.
