here is game idea for star dock

good or bad

i would like to see a game where you start out with say civ5 and end up with galciv

in other words the ai's would start out on their own worlds and have to advance from a tribe all the way through space flight

hope that makes sense to whomever reads this

This would be really cool, however, I can see a couple potential problems with it.

The game would have to be HUGE. In order to have the depth to make it fun, you would basically have to make two games. That is a lot of development.

Also, if you have one race that focuses on technology, by the time anyone else reached a point where they could go galactic, the tech race could have colonized half the galaxy. Ther would have to be some mechanism to level the field that way.

Your topic did give me an idea though. Soemthing else that would be cool would be to have Stardock and Firaxes could get together, and make a race exporter.

So, let's say you finish playing a game of CIV, and like how things went. At the end of the game you would have an option to export your civ as a custom race for GalCiv.

This also sounds a little along the lines of Spore.

Yeah, Spore sounds like it'll cover this relatively well.

IF it ever comes out! And when it does, i hope it doesn't get an M rating.

This would be so cool! It would also have to export your Civ 4 world as the texture for your GalCiv2 homeworld.

I doubt it would happen though .

What do you mean 'IF'? It's well on track, and i can't see EA backing down from the biggest money spinner ever!

And why hope it doesn't get an M (which i can't see anyway)? Crazy yank parents think it'll make you go on a killing spree due to the copious amounts of... EVOLUTION contained within?

When someone is unstable enough to go on a killing spree, they probably had alot of problems before they played the M game.

Also, parents shouldn't be bitching that their kids games are violent or M rated or whatever. They're not meant for children, and kids wouldn't get ahold of them if the parents didn't buy them in the first place!

My first thought when I finished reading the OP.

i can't see EA backing down from the biggest money spinner ever!

My first worry once I started learning about Spore and Windows Vista "together"

let's say you finish playing a game of CIV, and like how things went. At the end of the game you would have an option to export your civ as a custom race for GalCiv

IIRC, this has been a goal of Will Wright's since he built SimEarth (still my all-time fave of "his" work). The Spore demo I saw made me think that he is finally reaching a mid-point in that long term quest with this "massively single-player online" thing--the plan to share constructs from other players' games to use as background in your own.

If I was marriage-brokering (or encouraging tawdry liasons, whatever) among game developers, I'd be more interested in seeing Stardock talk Will Wright into leaving EA and starting a joint venture focused entirely on strategies for making strategy and sim games "interoperable."

How about this: (5 years from now!)

You start CIV-style...10 factions on your own planet. You have to either conquer or unite all factions on your own planet before you get interstellar travel.
At the same time, 10 alien species are acomplishing the same thing on their own, far away planets.
Once you are in space, if you visit say, the Drengin and they are not up to interstallar travel yet, you can "sponsor" them and help them grow into an interstllar power (if you just invade & conquer them while they are still planet-bound, you will get very little, best to let them grow THEN conquer, heh hehe)
Once your pet race comes into itself, they can be "wooed" by other races and influenced by goo/ evil, etc. They "may" even turn against you!

Just writing this I get MANY ideas....can I get paid to do this?

If only they paid the peanut gallery instead of charging admission, I'd not be worrying about the increasing age of my plumbing (personal and household). Bills are definitely one of my least favorite things about being a grownup...
