DA - random event bug

Sorry for the second thread but the last one was in wrong category.

I had random event when Taxes are 25% lower and the profit from trade is much bigger. This event lasts whole game! It is a bug? It would be nice for a couple of turns but It makes no sense to earn so much money for the whole time/game.

Also the event with pirates. Pirates are to strong. Much much to much to strong! I was the most powerfull in space but the pirates killed my whole fleet. How come pirates can have better army than most powerful nation in space?

AFAIK the durations of that and other similar events are completely random. It could last the rest of the game, or it could last two turns. It's not a bug in either case.

But in my opinion it ruins the game. I earn 1000BC per turn eith taxes on 0%.
It is to much and to easy. I agree that random event shuld last random time but make some proper calculation. For example minimum time and maximum - 10 turns to 25 turns.

Like Kryo said, it is simply a random event. Although I have not played DA yet, I had a DL game, where I got the increased economic prosperity event early on, and it lasted nearly all game. Is this a good thing? No. 7 games years later the economy returned to normal, and because of the massive military buildup, all civilizations were thrown into a recession.

All it does is really add an element of randomness to the game. Games are not supposed to be too easy, there must be things like this that change the normal flow of events. IMHO, it is a test as to how well you can adapt and change your strategies accordingly.

I honestly don't know. I was drunk with power in one of my games!   Then pirates showed up. Guess what they had? Black hole generators on EVERY hard point they could get their hands on. They also had an insane amount of defense as well, about 5000 or more for each type. To say the least, even with my power they whooped me! Even my pet race, the Drengin, could not stop them.

The only way to destroy the pirates is by war. It would be nice if you could pay them money to attack your rival civ.

I think Stardock should do something with pirates and those random events to make it more logical.

They even do it without payment. They will take out any ship, yours and AI's. The only ships they won't attack are minor races. They also will not invade.
Once they have killed every ship they won't move much anymore
It's an easy victory then. Buil faster transports to outrun them and take over the AI's planets.
When you like to shoot it out, just put all building to zero and start researching for bigger, more armed ships and take them and the AI's out.
I think it would be mor of a challenge if the pirates were about the same strenght as the players. Then you would be forced to deal with them and keep an eye on your other opponents.

the one encounter i had with pirates was devestating... for about half a year, i just didn't have any military, and then the pirates showed up and creamed most everything i had... mostly transports, fortunately i got the galactic privateer super structure. but because of the pirates i actually built up my military, and i didn't even have to work that much at it, they were not near as powerful as what you describe. is their power random as well? or relative to the over all galactic military strength? not many people had a large military yet in my game.

I'm kinda gettin tired of gettin wiped out too with the pirate thing. Personally I think the pirates should only be slightlystronger than the civ with the best military. This being progressive as the game goes on. To just suddenly have them with weapons that are research wise too far away to defeat is no fun.. I've gotten to the point where I just start the game over.

It's an unfair advantage. And unrealistic... Please fix

As commented by Frogboy on another thread:

But that's not what I think of "balance" as much as AI tuning.  Balance to me has to do with how much things cost, how long things take to research, how powerful super abilities are.

The mega events I don't agree with. they aren't supposed to be balanced. That's why they're optional. They're intentionally unbalanced to "mess with" the game.

It would be cool if pirates could build ship from starbases(if they could make them). It would also be cool if pirates would start out with acouple of transports and they attempt to get their own planet.
