TAB Next Ship

This shortcut doesn't seem to be working for me. Anyone know why?

Yep.

I do believe the TAB key and the 'find' button will not scroll through all your ships with movement points.

As far as i know, it is impossible to scroll through all your ships with movement points.

So unless you choose to use up all movement points as you go along - 'go fish' (poke around the universe aimlessly to find them).

Actually I think it does work although it may work on some revs and not others. At least on v1.31 it works but there's a catch. Tab or Find cycles through ships/fleets without movement until you get to a ship/fleet that you actually want to move. Once you move a selected ship/fleet the next ship/fleet that gets selected is the one that's closest to the last moved ship/fleet.

This ship/fleet may have been one that's previously been skipped. That's what makes it confusing. If you keep cycling with Tab/Find from there and don't move any more ships/fleets until you cycle all the way back around, then you can be sure you've gone through all ships/fleets with movement. The end result is that you may end up cycling past the same ship/fleet multiple times before you finally cycle around all ships/fleets without moving one of them.

This really isn't that much of a help, but knowing how it works can sometimes make it useful. What I do is move all ships/fleets that I want to move by hand that turn before starting to use Tab/Find to cycle through all remaining ships/fleets looking for ones I've missed. If I didn't miss any then I only cycle through the remaining ships/fleets once. If I've missed one or two then I have to cycle through one or two more times.

Sorry about the long explanation for what should be a simple feature. If you could just hit the spacebar on ships/fleets that you don't want to move by hand this turn then the feature would be simple. But you can't hit the spacebar for a ship/fleet unless you're willing to skip moving it by hand *and* the subsequent autopilot movement.

I forget whether I saw the change in 1.4, but in DA the TAB key (and the Find button) skips any units that have been set to guard or sentry.

If you're playing a version with this functionality, the "not working" could be b/c all your ships are set to guard or sentry.

Since post is in strategies, I'll throw in an aside: after TAB started working this way, I renewed an old habit from Civ. Keep one unit active so you have a chance to check the whole map for units you might want to get moving before you end a turn.

...not being able to cycle through ships surely does hurt gameplay.
