Where is the colony ship?

Sometimes I can’t get a hold of my colony ships. I see them on the ship list. They are near a planet but I can’t manipulate them or see them. What am I missing?

I sure do appreciate you guys. The manual and the wikia seem incomplete. I really liked MOO I & II. I can see a lot of strategic depth to this game but so far it has been mostly work

OK...I found my colony ships by clicking the build ship button and seeing them in orbit. I sent them there to unload colonists. I guess they did.

If there is a shield near the planet that means there is a ship there.
