Unwanted upgrades - easy way to kill them ?

If you have made the call to leave your industry at basic factory or factory level, but capture more advanced tech, then all your worlds start to upgrade. Your cash flow goes very, very negative, and whats worse ship production comes to a halt.

Whats the easiest way to deal with it ?
I have thought of manually deleting every upgrade on every world, but thats a lot of work. Is there a better way to get rid of them ?

Cheers

The only way i know to do this is to enter each of your planets (hence its easier done from the start) and then click on 'Details' - 'Governor' and uncheck the 'Auto Upgrade' option. It is then down to you to upgrade any building you wish to.

Hope that helps

If you use the No Automatic Upgrades mod, as well as upgrades not happening automatically, you still have the option to build low-end improvements even if you have researched more advanced ones.

No easy way. I like the sound of Macmatt's mod but if you play the meta you probably will not be able to use it. I haven't played DA yet but I think the issue is better addressed there.

There's no change to make avoiding upgrades easier (still needs to be set per-planet), but you can build old improvements at will in DA.

This a big problem in the game. As I conquered planets, I kept getting stuck with improvements (usually factory related) that started to wreck my economy. I had to manually fix each planet.

Has anyone else used this mod mentioned above? Is it a significant improvement?
It includes a planetimprovement.xml file? Is it for the latest version of the game.

I am also looking for a way to generate more money in the mid to end game. After I go to Republic, all I can do is build more stock exchanges. Anything else dramatically improve the economy. Trade doesn't help when you are at war with the AIs.

On the Let's Give the Bored Devs Another Task theme, I'd love to see some context menu (right-click) stuff added for all the management pages. This factory problem could go away if we could right-click the factory techs we don't want to use and forbid the governors to use them.

@brycej re mid-to-end game money, I have question: do you have starports on many or most of your worlds, and do you always keep starports producing? I don't know if the idea is crazy, but in my last few DA games it seemed good to me to leave some manufacturing idle when money was tight and my fleets were adequately large.

Stock Markets. Decent Population. Trade. Econ Resources. Econ Starbases w/ trade routes. Higher gov't. More planets. Reduce Industrial Capacity. Increase taxes

Only ways I know to have good income.

I liked your reply G.W. - I had added this to the "ideas for a update" area, but I like your approach

I would like two improvements :

a) the colony governor given extra options to allow you to exclude upgrades based on captured technology

or

an option to upgrade/not upgrade that appears after you capture tech

b) a direct route (keyboard short cut or button on the screen) to get straight to the Civ. Manager Colonies screen. Its useful but 2 levels deep via the current interface

Maybe, in the colony governor, a checkbox for each planet to turn off and on automatic upgrades?

Republic gives you an economic boost. Doed Democracy have any effect on the economy?

Republic, Democracy and Federation all have rising economy boosts.
