Product Release Questions on the GC2:Dark Avatar

There's a lot of excitement about this Dark Avatar. I hear lots of improvements like better AI, or extra tasks/options, like mining a moon, in the game. Sorry I'm still innocent about it so I have several questions.

When is the release date in Canada? How much is it?
Is this an expansion, or a stand-alone expansion?
Is it compatible with the Dread Lords saved games?
Will it physically be sold in retail stores or be downloaded only from your site?
If it's sold at retail stores, will a disc be required to play it or is enough to be played from the harddrive?
what's the system requirements? Does it require better computer hardware than Dread Lords?

I'm not sure about the specifics of the retail release, but you can get it direct from us regardless where you're at for USD$29.95.

The downloadable version will require GC2. The retail version will be a combined GC2+DA package for those who don't already have GC2, with (I believe) a mail-in-rebate for those who already have GC2.

Is it compatible with the Dread Lords saved games?

After DA is installed the two still remain separate programs with their own settings and saves.

Will it physically be sold in retail stores or be downloaded only from your site?

As noted above, it will available by both retail and download.

No disc was required for GC2, so while I personally can't say for certain, I know of no reason for that to change.

AFAIK the requirements have not changed from DL (those are listed here), but obviously you'll have a better experience if you're not right at the minimum requirements. More RAM will allow you to play on larger maps more smoothly, and a better video card will help the game run better and look nicer.

Note that the DirectX9 card part of the requirement equates to a Radeon 9500+ or GeForce FX5200+ (the game will run on older cards, but some graphical features will not appear). You can find a full breakdown of video card support here.

Thanks Kryo... that's cool. So now it's just a matter of waiting... I'm not really in a hurry, to be honest, the present game GalCiv2:Dread Lords is already a marvel on its own respect. Congratulations on that! But extra features are very welcomed (i.e. better AI, more random events, spy options, moon mining, destroyed civ fleets joining your force, etc...), most of what others already mentioned in the forum. So developers, take a bit of time as necessary to make it even marvelous than the last, you're doing a good job. I like this player/developer/modder interactive discussions, feedback, and support. Thanks!

my system is
2GB Dual channel DRAM
AMD Ahtlon 64-bit AM2 X2 4200
Nvidia GeForce 7900 GT 256MB Sli
XP Pro w/SP2

Your missing out by not being part of the very stable beta it's miles better than Dread Lords already.

Capidenn, just to make sure that you are clear on one point; you can buy Dark Avatar now from Stardock Central. You don't have to wait until the retail release date. It is still in beta, so not all the features have been added yet. The campaign isn't in yet, and there are a few balancing issues to be worked out, but it is indeed quite stable and perfectly playable in it's present form. You will, of course, be entitled to all updates. And since you like the interactivity, by participating in the beta, you will be able to give your own opinions as to the final form the game should take.

Yeah you might be right, I'm missing out by not trying the Beta...
