GeForce 7950 SLI notice

Lockup

If you have a Geforce 7950 in SLI mode and experience a lockup in GalCiv II, turn ON the hardware mouse cursor.

We are working with nVidia to figure out the cause.

I have the Geforce 7950 in SLI mode, enabled the hardware mouse cursor in Windowed mode. The game will still lockup when

1. a research announcement is made at the next turn
2. designing a ship (turning the ship up, down, left & right)

I have resolved my issue with an older nVidia drivers. I use the drivers that came with my Leadtek PX7950GT TH card. Didn't check the version but I believe it is older than the 91.47 drivers.

I am still playing in Windows mode with hardware mouse cursor enabled and my game resolution is the same as my desktop's.

So, it is confirm that the game is incompatible with the latest Nvidia drivers. Let's hope Stardock resolve this issue with Nvidia soon.

Hi, just another small update to my resoluton above. I have also disabled the anti-aliasing in the game. I found that if I enable it, it will 'freeze' the game again.

I have Two 7800 GTX's and my system freezes to a halt if I run GCII in SLI mode.

It happens with Hardware Cursor on OR off.

Runs fine in single gpu mode.

How do you run in single GPU mode?

You just turn off SLI mode in the ADVANCED display properties.

Is any =body successfully using SLI mode with DL-DA? Or is it known to be a no go?

I have twin 7800 GTX and DL AND DA runes just great and always has.... Besides the timing problems solved by the AMD CPU driver.

CougarDK...you are running in SLI mode?(are you sure?) Which rendering method? Which drivers? Also, do you use Anti-Aliasing?

If you don't mind, can you check all your settings and post them here? It might help me sort it out.

Thanks

I've been playing GalCiv2 (and now DA) on a eVGA 7950 GX2 since October or so, with Hardware mouse OFF, and I've never had a lockup problem that could be traced to that option. I just noticed the post about this today so I decided to double-check things on my end.

I'll say right now that I'm not sure if I'm running in SLI during the sessions since I've never had a profile created for the game. Knowing that I made a savegame (relatively early in DA) to benchmark my fps from. At my normal settings: 1600*1200, 4x AA from in-game with gamma correction and super-transparency AA forced in the drivers, 16x AF forced through the drivers I was getting 70 fps. Closed it down, made a profile through nHancer and played around. I left all of the settings the same and turned on SLI. AFR and SFR made no difference and the load balancing graph doesn't work in GC2, so no luck there either. Either I'm running in SLI without the need for a game profile, or I never have been. I'm going to play around with compatability flags and a few more settings but at this point I'm not really worried about it either way since it runs just fine.

Edit: Well, crud. Forgot about the frame rate throttle and apparently GC2 forces V-sync (though I didn't see the option in the menu). I turned off the throttle and forced v-sync off, and now I know SLI is working with it set to AFR globally and a few compatibility flags turned on since I was hitting 250+ fps. I'm also leaving hardware cursor OFF. I'll post back later with a final result....if I don't miss too many more obvious things.

Edit2: I gotta stop doing stuff like this when I'm tired. It makes no difference in my framerate if I have the driver set to AFR or Single and it doesn't care if I have a profile set up for DL&DA or not. With v-sync off I did verify that both GPUs were working and that mucking with the SLI settings didn't make a bit of difference. The exact spot I used to benchmark stayed at 180-185 fps through all the setting changes.

Final Verdict: I'm leaving everything like it was. The 72 fps cap that I'm forced to by v-sync is fine by me. Hardware cursor OFF has never given me a problem. Now for more DA.

I run 7600 GT SLI config..

everytime I run the game, it minimizes to the desktop.. now to get around that, I have to:
when I click on the shortcut or run the game, I have to rappidly click the mouse over and over.. this somehow keeps it from minimizing and allows the game to run.

this is also the issue in games like Empier Earth, EE II, this game and DA expansion..

this happened when I changed my monitor from my standard large monitor to a flatscreen widesceen monitor.

I think there is an issue with widescreen monitors vs. standard montitors (I had to deinstall the driver for the monitor and take the windows standard widescreen monitor driver instead - I still get all the resolution options so it's not a big deal)

Hey all i had the same problem but i'v not had it since i updated to the new drivers off the nvidia website, i also just have the 3d setting set to quality instead of using the profile or application controlled

I haven't had my problem in a while.  Recently though, for some reason the game minimized (but it seems to do this now once in every three games I play).

If it minimizes, I can't re-switch back to the game, because it just fills half the monitor with black, and the sound of the game plays, as if i'm playing, but there's no image.  I have to go into task manager and shut down the program (this is of course only if the game minimizes during play).

I haven't found the specific culprit yet, but I have narrowed the reason down - the computer is trying to switch tasks to antoher program, even if that program is a system task or some other background program that usually runs quietly without you knowing.

The best results is to ensure you have no other programs running.  It hasn't done it recently, after I ensured my YIM and other messenger programs were shut down.  Try to have all programs turned off while playing to minize this nusiance.
