Planetary Invaision

How can we Improve them?

As I was invaiding the Altarian's the other night after a long LONG game on battle of the god's, suicidal, I thought as i nearly fell asleep for the second time: "Invasions are really bland". Then I fell asleep. So I started thinking when i woke up, Stardock should really overhaul the "Army" in the game. It's this masivly inportant aspect of the game and it's so lacking that its not ever funny. The "Navy" can be completely pimpd out, why can't we have the same engins and ability's for the Army? It would make this aspect of the game so much more fun, just like its fun to watch your own custom fighters, frigates and capital ships battle it out, we could have our own custom infantry, tanks and those big things, whatever they actualy are.

When you concoure your first planet that movie pops up saying that it requiers complete air and space dominanace for warfare on this scale to be posible, so do you think it would be posible that in battles we actualy had Air Units, like fighter's that are say 50 people like a tank, and they just join in with the fighting, to tie it all together, with a major overhaul of what it all looks like, and fully customisable for difrent races, like normal space ships, this aspect of the game could be vastly improved.

Imagine having lines of Terran marines actualy fighting oposing lines of Dregin warriors, with customized and pimpd out tanks and mech's as I'll call them behind them lobing in support with fighter's flying over and into the frey answering calls for CAS. I think to keep it fair the only thing's you could do to your troops and vehicles is glitering them, there would be no options for wepons and defences on them, they would be dictaed by your soldiering level and ability.

In closing, I think that this aspect of the game is paticuarly lacking and can be vastly improved with little effort, watching little people run around and jump is just boaring to me, it's ok the first time but it just get's... old... fast...

Cheer's for listning stardock, its a great game!

Well, it would not be a 'little effort', it would be a huge undertaking.

Tactical combat has already been ruled out by the devs (many times).
And the level of extra detail that you are requesting, even as pure eye-candy, is very unlikely to happen. The team working on GalCiv is just too small, and they are spending all their time now on Dark Avatar.

I know that Moosetek, And it wouldnt be "tactical". You have no control over the wepon's, its purely a cosmetic enhansment. It could even posibly be outsourced to anouther development company. I'm not talking about it apearing in DL or DA, but I recently heard about a second expansion pack when I read threw the history behind the game by Brad.

Also Moosetek, you were abit over-zealous with that flame there, calm down mate, I was just putting it out there. I did a search and counldn't find anything like this already, so I posted it. I know how to use these forum, cut people some slack.

Sorry, I did not mean it as a flame.
My apologies.

Personally, the invasions don't bother me much. I usually skip the scene anyway just to see if I've taken the planet or not, so any extra eye candy or tactical ground combat would just be wasted on me. I don't think there's much need for this.

There is an element of Army upgrades via the tech tree if only as a soldiering bonus and additional attack strategy choices.

Cheer's moosetec, sorry about my agrasiveness towards you.

Yes SithUK, and these would still be there determining the strength of your army, the building and editing ability's wuldnt include modlues of any sort, other than add-on's to make it look good, ike light's and other bit's and peices to build your own guy's, create a uniform for your marrines (or alien troopers) and just having it look good!

I think that improving the eye-candy will only come about through the modding community - at least as far as DL and DA are concerned. It would be nice to see, for sure.

I usually skip over the animations as well. Boring, as you say. But even with extra spice, it would get old rather quickly I would think. There is only so much variety that can be programmed in, after all. Especially when it is not an actual tactical combat system.

I would rather see the dev's time spent in other areas; like getting the AI to use bonus tiles effectively (which they still don't do).

So I misspell 'it' as 'is', want to go back and edit the post, and there is no more 'edit' feature.

Can't get the AI to use bonus tiles correctly, and can't do a simpler thing like integrate the 'edit' function correctly.

Just what is this world coming to???
And then, after I complain about the 'edit' not being there before there are any replies, after I reply to my own post in #8- what do you know but #7 can now be edited.

So I fixed my mistake.

Why can't the 'edit' option apply to every post???

?????????????

Would be nice to be able to edit other peoples' posts,,making them say what you want them to

lol
Or, what they actually meant them to say...

Ya.

But we should be able to edit our own posts at any time.

Yea your right Moosetek, there are defintly more pressing things that require dev time like the AI using and picking good bonus's, but if they had time, this is defintly somthing that I would like to see implimented.

Well, if you have 3D modeling and animation talent, perhaps you could work on modding it in.
If not, hopefully someone that does will take such an interest.

Personally, the ground battles take second fiddle to the fleet battles for me.
So I am happy getting cool ships to put in my games, like the Bab5 and Star Trek models.
Yea they defintly do take second fiddle, except that they are a vital part of the game, and you can't capture planets without it! That's the real clinger that has me on the topic.

Animation tallent? Or not! Yea I hope so, there's already a battlemech mod for it, which is good, its just the more overall thing that im looking for.

I don't think this is about mere cosmetics. Invasions are a major issue.

There are weapons technologies that seem to imply that they will also go to your soldiers. I don't want tactical because I really don't have the time in an already insanely long game. However, I do want a "regular" army that is more potent than my planetwide draft if I pay for it.

Infantry, artillery, cavalry... it's as fundamental to warfare as tiny, small, medium, large and massive ships.

Can i ride a Thalan into battle?

Moosetek, you can apparently only edit your most recent post, and even then only until there is a more recent reply. So I'll be able to edit this post until somebody else posts in this thread. Weird, I know.

I am at the opposite extreme as far as wishes for tactical battles goes. I find the whole sequence, including the attempt to spastically click to get the best odds, tedious. My wish is that there was a setting for "Instant Ground Battles" that would take you straight from the invasion settings screen (rocks, tides, gas, propaganda, etc.) to the victory/defeat screen after calculating the battle using random odds from the range you would have gotten when trying to click.

Cavalry is tanks, helicopters and airplanes, not Thalans.

I still wanna ride a Thalan into battle.

Actually, the way it was working was a bit different than that.

I had replied, then noticed a typo. But there was no 'Edit' option even though mine was the last post.

So I complained about it in the next reply, at which point I was able to edit the previous post that had the typo.

So I wonder what will happen when I hit Reply for this post. Will I have an "edit" option right away, or will I have to wait till the next reply is posted?

Edit: Nope, this time it worked the way it was supposed to.

It is and it just doesn't make sense. Tactical warfare would be nice, but we know it's never going to happen, so I'll happily take pritty 3D unit's and better animations instead!

I guess I am partial to the Navy being better than the Army. Comes with the job though.

I'd have to agree that it would be nice to have some changes to the ground force invasion. As it is now I click three times once I get the invasion screen and go right into the planet screen to change the social builds to what I want. Assuming I win the battle that is. It would be nice to see a different representation of planatary battle than one field with oposing armies. We stopped fighting that way 2 centuries ago. I would not like to see tactical battle though. Too much in the game to tweak and fix already for the devs to spend time on it.
