Enter the Dread Lords

During my play of the latest version of the Beta (gigantic map/challenging level), the Dread lords appeared. First let me say that having the Dread lords appear is a good thing. Though this event did not live up to my expectations, as the Dread lords where a bit weak and easily defeated (even after I had left them on their own for sometime). Would it be possible to expand upon this event? Perhaps having the Dread Lords appear widely spaced at four planets on the map and then after they are defeated the first time reappear on two planets later in the game and stronger. When they are defeated the second time they reappear on one planet much stronger and later in the game. In my opinion this would be a more interesting use of the Dread lord event. It was sad to see them wiped out and out of the game so early.

Other than the occasional crash during the auto saves, DA is well done, keep up the good work!

I've not seen the event, but using random opponents in DA sandbox games they have appeared as one of the races. Also, I will say they got hosed. I was playing at normal/large map/abundant all/scattered.
Not by me, but the Torians no less

I remember in the campaign they were bad ass, I am wondering though if something not right or Torians were lucky.

I tried playing the 'dreadlords on parade' games many times. Since i am not allowed to reduce the number of AI players, the dreadlords get creamed every time.

The Dread Lords appearing as a race at the beginning of the game was a bug, and has been fixed.

CC this is still happening in 2a. Is the fix for the next update or should it have been rectified in this release?

Hmm, I'm not seeing Dread Lords at all, maybe it's because I haven't gone through the campaign and have been mostly doing sandbox setups. I'm getting the Iconians, but I assume that's a separate animal.

In the two DA beta games I have played the Dread Lords appear as a minor race with their own planet. The first game the Altarians pounced on them and wiped them off the map. The second game I saw them and tried to cultivated them a bit by letting them grow and seeing what would happen... also hoped for some juicy factories and techs on the planet to develop... but all they have are the Dread Lord ships and normal factories. More like a minor race finding Dread Lord ships, tossing a few cold ones back and zooming into space. My hope is that this could become a mega event with the Dread Lords appearing at several times during the game progressively harder. Just my thoughts as previously mentioned above.

This is a very apt description of what happened when humans discovered the artifacts of the Heechee in Fred Pohl's novels.

It's still happening in the latest release for me.

It happened to me playing 2A this past weekend. They had two planets, so they were not a minor race, but their population was extremely low. I had a diplomatic exchange with them where they said "You're looking great! ...Please just don't hurt me!" LMFAO.

Unfortunately, that game had problems crashing every time I tried to save and it's gone now.

I always keep at least 3 saves and rotate between them precisely because of what happened to you.

That way, if one save gets destoyed, i have two backups. It is unfortunate that this kind of tedious saving is necissary, but to be honest, i cannot think of any turn based game in existance where it is not necissary.

Galciv in particular never reloads an identical game to what you saved, and i feel that this is what's behind the trouble.
