UI Suggestion

Whenever you group together several ships that aren't in a fleet (e.g. not enough logistics), it is a pain to move them around. I would like to be able to select them all by ctrl-a, selecting the fist ship and shift clicking the last ship in the group, or by double clicking on a single ship in the list. Once I have them selected, I would like to be able to order all of them to go to a destination once. The way it is currently implemented,if you have several ships selected and you order them to one spot, sometimes only one ship will move. You then have to repeat the same order for the rest of the ships... this can be very tedious and annoying. Although sometimes all of them do move with a single order. I'm not sure if it's a bug or the result of a game mechanic that I'm not seeing. Any thoughts on this?

Yeah, this has always been kind of weird. If the first ship that moves uses up all its moves for that turn, then the next ship in the group will move. But if one of the ships reaches the destination with moves left over, it will remain selected, and the rest of the ships in the group won't move until after you hit "end turn."

It seems like it would be easier if selecting multiple ships worked like Windows or recent RTS games.

You can do something like this by assigning Rally Points on the map, then using the Governor screen to tell ships with no destination where to proceed. I usually make a "Ship Yard" rally point near my home planet, and send leftover ships there.

IMO, the fact that vlr3d was able to make the OP points directly to the question of how internal Stardock design and testing copes with the larger maps.

By necessity, those of us who favor longer games must address situations like this, and the stacks-o-ships parts of GCII are among the game's weakest elements, at least in terms of how much your hands must work to keep playing.

UI suggestion off topic (annoying)

When ever there is a list of techs i.e. trade screen or planet construction
would it be possible to group techs together, instead of alphabeticaly.

Say, all econs together or all shields together (in order).

Sometimes when I go to trade, I cant remember if "shield III" is better than "barriers".

Also when you select beam/missile/mass in the ship designer the weapons/defense are not listed in order.

I now its trivial, but it`s still annoying.

Speaking of UI suggestions.. how about a delete button for deleting custom races from previous games... I don't want the the empire I played as last time (customized) being a choice for the random opponents thing. I'd delete them entirely since I usually am so fickle its a new customization every time.

Actually, I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that my custom designed opponents were used when I selected Random Opponents. Maybe make this an option instead...
