Got a crash, can anyone advise?

I've got Galciv 2 and the dark avatar beta.
Everything was working fine yesterday, but when I click the Exe to load up either vanilla galciv or DA I get an error message. It doesn't even load to the game options, i.e, start game, update, serial etc.

I can't seem to find the error debug file.

Edit... Because the game isn't even having a chance to load up, there is no debug file. I reinstalled everything, so it's a clean install.

The only issue I can trace it to, is that my brother installed Nero version 7. Since he did that, the game has stopped working. I've unistalled it, but that hasn't helped.

I really have no idea how to fix this beyond doing a complete wipe of my hard drive and doing a factory reset. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It's a lauunch error

Did you update the game through Stardock Central since the last time it ran correctly?

The reason I ask is that dxaxhost.dll is a DesktopX file.

Note both the OP and Reply #3 as they both mention fixes, but for perhaps different problems.

Like I said, there is no deubug file because I tried a new install and the game crashes at the launcher, so the file isn't being created.

I'll try the solution from the link moosetek13 provided and see what happens.
