the idea that won't go away

i'm a fan of both pc and console games and i was just reading up about the wii games coming out next year (i'm getting a wii if i can find one 50,000 units my a**) and i read about the fact that relic are making an as yet unamed stratergy game for the wii. now its stuck it won't go away the thought that it could be 'homeworld Wii' i must know. this got me thinking that mabey stardock the masters of stratergy should look into making a wii game (i'd buy it)
what does everyone think

Oh, and I thought this would be about terror stars, tactical combat or multiplayer for GC2!

The Wii pointer might be suitable for a strategy game (no traditional strategy games have yet tried) but I question whether the tiny resolution of a TV screen would really allow for a game like GalCiv2

Bear in mind that high resolution is a relatively recent thing game-wise. Tons of classic games (every DOS game, and many pre-2000 windows games) are perfectly happy at low resolutions.

roflmao

thats what I thought too! haha, but i'm pleasently suprised. I tried playing C&C Red Alert on a console (N64 or PSOne, can't remember which) and it blew like the big bad wolf.

However, I have faith in Stardock AND the Wii, it could work.

Oh, my deepest apologies for leaving that one out!

I'm not sure what to think about StarDock doing a Wii game. And personally, since the toolkit is available to the general public, would like to see them do the Xbox360 if they were to do a console. (Yes, this is despite my deep seeded hatred for Microsoft, but i do give them a thumbs up for making their toolkits available to everyone, even if they are about a grand total). I really don't *see* how the motion sensor could be taken advantage of in a strategy game, and would like the complex algorithms to be computed on something with a bit more power.

Nuh uh. It was supposed to be about multiplayer GCII on a console, with carriers and tactical combat implemented. Oh, and the carriers would have to be able to carry your mulitplayer buddies' ships into tactical combat against a terror star.

I win

I will most definitely give you that one for the reply... you do win. Now I shall go back down into the dungeon and slave tirelessly away at my next thesis on carriers and how the developers really need to implement them.
I can see you all cringing now. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Once the Wii browser is out though, anyone will be able to make a wii game via flash. While I doubt you'll be able to use any advanced input functions that way, you will at least have 'mouse' input at your disposal.

via flash

Yeah, that kind of says it all... Take a wild stab at what my opinion is here.

And give kryo a break evil I caught a spelling mistake earlier and didn't say anything. Look at the date, that says enough. He's probably crunched for time, or has been drinking on the job like me *angel halo face*.

...Maybe if he used firefox 2.0 the spell checker that's built in would have caught it... *smacks dead horse as hard as possible*

Aw now I wasn't trying to be mean or anything. Besides, Kryo knows full well that I have the utmost respect for him and only meant it as a "joke".
I mean, you did know, didn't you Kryo? It was a joke, he he... uhhh, uh oh!
Looking around for that big ban stick...

I do, and it doesn't. For some reason FF2's spellchecker does not apply to the reply boxes here, at least for me. Just a typo anyway, meh

Still trying out FF2. So far I like it. Strange though, the spell check works for me on here, but like you said Kryo, it could just be on your end.

For the love of Google man! Just type it in a search engine, you'll find out in 10 seconds.

Well, if he doesn't know what a Wii is, what's to say that he doesn't know what Google is? Maybe he's really out of touch

The new, 250.00 dollar, interactive home entertainment system from Nintendo. This is what the Wii is.
Yeah, I should have Googled it... I am old but not that old... Can be a bit lazy at times.

heh? What did you say sonny? ** Whips out the old hand held hearing horn **

Nintendo? I thought they were a dying breed in the world of computer gaming consoles. Thought they were sticking to the hand held gaming hardware. Believe it or not, I have never heard about the Wii until now.

Interactive you say? Now I guess I am going to have to use Google... Damn.

Also, I own a Wii, and despite the GameCube's flaming failure (look, i love Nintendo, but that was garbage and you're lying to yourself if you think otherwise. It only did *decent* because of the games that came out exclusively for it, the console was trash), the Wii is surprisingly awesome. There are plenty of cool features already there, and many more to come... I can't wait for the keyboard that plugs into my Wiimote (no, they haven't announced this, but you *know* it's gonna happen)

Maybe so, at least the concept seems pretty cool. I've only seen a couple of games and the graphics weren't so hot in my opinion. Plus, I've read where a few people have already lost their grip with the controllers and pretty much launched the "remote" into their nice big screen tv's. Awesome!

Very true, the graphics are not comparable to any other nextgen system or a PC, and they never were supposed to be.

Very true, my idiot friend broke his wiimote day one launching it into the wall, along with his nunchuck, while we were boxing... it's true that the wrist strap doesn't help, but, he was being an uncoordinated jackass who was exaggerating his movements tenfold and had not washed his hands after eating greasy pizza... i laughed, hard

one how did your friend actualy manage to break the wiimote, all of the stories about the wiimote breaking stuff have one thing in common the wiimote survived completely intact that thing is indestructable.

Structurally it's indestructible. The thing didn't smash to pieces (although that would have been cool), but the sensors inside are fairly delicate. They didn't work so hot after taking a 40 mph trip into a brick wall.
