Thanks, I really can't take much credit for the models as most of them were designed by others and posted free on the 'net and I made some minor modifications to them (they get credited in my full 10 minute version). I added the spinning engine effect to the Enterprise, the Borg ship is just a cube with a "real" Borg texture on it, the bridge came with the Enterprise model, and the characters were all modified from a base model into their current look. I did build the corridor sets, engineering set, crew quarters, and "working" turbolift doors to the bridge set (as well as Spock's little viewer gizmo). And yeah, I really HAD to add that part with the crew being bounced around in their chairs.
I've been using Animation: Master from Hash for about 6 years and it's easy to use. It uses spline based modeling rather than traditional polygons. The program runs about $300 and has some nice features as standard like particle emitters, volumetric lights, etc. All the special effects were done "in the camera" except for the title card, dissolve, viewscreen matte shot, and fades, where I used Adobe Premier. One timesaving measure was to use still images as backgrounds in some scenes, where the only real processor time was spent rendering the physical models in the scene (even in some of the sets-- even I can't recognize them all).
