Jagged Knife Event was a bit game-killing

Jagged Knife Event was a bit game-killing

Just a bit unbalanced

In my first game with DA beta 2 I had the "Jagged Knife" event hit. I got the pop-up proclaiming that the Jagged Knife had taken two over two worlds from good-leaning civs and that one of the worlds was one of mine.

When I looked to see which planet I'd lost it turned out to be my homeworld. My fully developed, 90+ percent happy, homeworld. Needless to say this pretty much killed that game.

Out of all the worlds belonging to good-leaning civs.

I think that's a bit much.

And we're back to my original point.

Tiny or small maps i find are very unballanced already. You can either dominate to the extreme or be dominated. Either way, i never feel like continuing a game where that happens thus i never play small maps.

Because this happens to everyone on the board and not just the player, it’s pretty reasonable. Though you should get all your military ships and whatnot back, they serve you and are under contract. If the Rebels have any cash they will instant buy ships, as well they should! All your money isn’t on just one planet. I don’t like how it’s a minor race to deal with, its obviously a combination of races seeking to unite the universe.

I can see this happening in a real world situation. Its already happened a couple times in the history of Mankind.

Pfeh. One planet? Try getting Jagged Knife'd right before galactic domination. JK got 20 planets, 14 of which were mine. I'd just spent the last several months with a slow march to the Korx home-system, and in a single blow, I lost it!

Of course, JK doesn't seem to susceptible to influence, so I couldn't just win them over with charm like I normally do-- but neither do they appear to project influence, which seemed to significantly expand my sphere of control, popping off a few extra worlds while I dealt with the insurrection.

Was ammusing when talking to them though-- they go into a spiel about how their race was advanced when mine was merely hunter-gatherers. No they weren't! You're MY race! Those are MY planets, darnit!

They think that you are the new rebel force, and they are the legitimate continuation of your former empire.

the only thing that I have to say about this is that not all homeworld planets are the best, I've had several games where some of my other planets have been far better than my homeworld - I would say that it would be very difficult to judge what planets are taken, I think that JK is a mega event and they are supposed to shake things up quite badly.

A real game killer...

They took 60 planets, 20 of which were mine (one lvl 28 planet), some of my wonders and more...

And you CAN'T solve the problem by reloading! In my game they seem to be a fixed event!

Thank you very much...

I don't see how this is "stupid". A setback, maybe, but not stupid. Just because you lose your capital does not mean you are the "rebel" force. Think of how many times throughout history nations have lost their capital (or biggest) city and have had to win it back.

I cannot think of anytime in history when a capital city has been lost to a 'rebel' force and the diposed government survived and continued to struggle on with the same governmental format.

Erm... how about the War of 1812 where England burned most of Washington to the ground (Including the White House)?

Not that I disagree, I hate this event and at this point I've disabled mega-events in my games purely to avoid this one. It would be one thing if it made sense but when my 100% approval empire with the most powerful military in the game gets half its worlds stolen by a rebel faction I object most strongly.

In the War of 1812, Washington didn't rebel and get taken over by a criminal organization. The British invaded it.

Let me add...
I played further: the knives had almost all technologies and were just one away from scientific victory!
I tried to capture back one planet - and guess what, the odds were against me. After this one I cancelled my attempts...

BUT:
The event seemed to be linked to a specific action, in this case the colonization of one particular planet (???) in just this round (???)
Let's hear what the stardock guys will say about that.
[Reloading and cancelling the autopilot to this star system did not trigger the knives]

Mega Events are random. Reloading a save from 2-3 turns ago should get rid of the JK. AFAIK, they're not triggered by X-action. Yes, the JK take all your tech.
