Custom portraits and logos in DA?

I tried copying over my custom portraits and logos from DreadLords into the My Documents/My Games/GC2DarkAvatar subdirectory, but they aren't appearing. Do I have them in the wrong place, or is DA not yet coded to recognize them?

Just checked and you're right, it doesn't seem to work. Moved the thread to the DA bugs forum.

I suppose Kryo already confirmed this, but I couldn't use portraits or logos either.

That's weird they worked fine for me. This is 1A we're talking about right. I have two custom opponents and a custom race all with logo and portraits I put in.

Edit: I found it. In Da, the correct folders are in the Gfx folder.

Yes, it works if you use the mods folder. However, there are folders for portraits and logos under My Documents\My Games which allow you to easily add more pics (without using 'mods'), and those do not seem to work.

That was where I was talking about. MyDocuments/MyGames/Gc2DarkAvatar/Gfx/ and inside there is logo and portrait folders.

Ack... undocumented changes. *ducks*

Hadn't noticed that new folder, which is a change from the way it worked from GC2. If that does work then great

I had to search for it the first time, but I'm one of those that look through all the folders when something new is installed anyway.

OK thanks, I moved the folders I had into the Gfx folder and it's working now.

Um, yea, MyDocuments/MyGames/Gc2DarkAvatar/Gfx/ has been working since day 1 with dark avatar. I've been using custom portraits, images, even diplo vids for my custom races since i got DA. The devs just changed the folder they belong in.

If I wanted to make animated video for the diplomatic discussions, what format would they need to be in? Normally I generate animations in .mov or .avi format, but I suspect I may need some sort of bink converter.

They're in Bink Video .bik format. You'll have to use RAD Video Tools Bink Converter to convert whatever video you render.

I could swear that the same custom portraits and icons I had for GC2 show up in the expansion beta

It's tucked away in the GFx part of the Dark Avatar folder from My Documents, works from there.
