It sounds like the game is installed under your account and not all users. I'm by no means an XP expert but since there are a lot of files placed under *your* My Documents, she probably doesn't have access to them. I'm guessing here, but if you drag the My Games directory to the Shared Documnets folder both you and she should be able to access them. If you do this make sure you can restore your current state in case I'm wrong.

A better idea might be coping the My Games directory from *your* My Documents to *her* My Documents. That should have the least chance of messing up your setup which I assume works. Though there may be issues with this. The Shared Documents is a bit more risky but should be transparent to the game since the same files will simply appear in both of your My Documents folders.

That seems to have done it. I copied my games directory from my documents to hers and I also went into the security setings and gave her unrestricted access to the stardock directory.

I don't really know wich one helped, but problem solved.

My girlfriend has a Gamecube and played them cutsey games. Recently I got her into First person shooters and she loves them. I'm not letting her touch my pc though  , been letting her play my Xbox. So now she wants me to build her a PC. This should be fun, seeing how she's totally PC illiterate.  

As amazing as it seems, I am able to get my wife distracted with it occasionally. This game was easy becouse I hooked her on MOO2 years ago. Believe it or not, that is the best way to get by with playing myself. She doesn't gripe about me being on the computer near as much if she's there too. So, guys, new strategy. Talk you wives/girlfriends into playing. Just make sure you have another computer so you don't get booted off.

Copying the folder was a good idea, regardless of whether it solved the problem. Now you won't have to share ship designs. You don't really want a dreadnaught class named GrrlPwrXXVI, do you?

My wife unfortunately has no patience for games. She doesn't mind me playing, though, especially since I made the games:me::tv:her analogy a few years ago. She has had a couple of memorable interactions with this game. One happened when she was on the computer and I was reading in another room.

Her: What the hell is "Gaelic Situations?"

Me: ??? Dunno, it sounds like a gay Celtic porno site. What are you looking at?

Her: This game manual you left by the monitor.

Me: ...Oh, you mean "Galactic Civilizations"...

Then, a couple of months later she came in while I was trading techs with the Snathi. She just shook her head, gave me a condescending look, and left. 'Wait until I catch you watching American Idol again,' I thought.

This is not a good idea guys. I would rather my wife / girl friend yell, scream, cuss, throw things, and tattle on me to her mother. In the end the choice is yours. I tried it. Not a good idea. Trust me.

They do exist. If your wife / girl friend does not play them now, leave it that way, do not introduce them to it. Your best bet if you are looking for someone like this, is to find one already playing games such as this.
